Hello,
I am planning to apply EA to Harvard. I was just assuming the deadline for application is Nov 1st. However looking at website deadline seem to mean 15 oct. Does anyone know what is actual deadline for harvard early action.
November 1st: https://college.harvard.edu/admissions/apply/application-timeline/restrictive-early-action
Never assume. Always check the web sites (for ALL of your schools). Some will have early deadlines for scholarships.
Here is the confusion
October 15
Early Action applicants: We recommend that you send your application by this date so that we may create and begin processing your file, and schedule an alumni/ae interview if possible.
Does this mean deadline is october 15 even though it mentions nov 1st in heading
I think they just don’t want you getting your application in at the last minute. Harvard interviews every applicant, so in order for them to get that process started they have to have a completed application, so if you don’t wait until the last minute you will presumably get your interview in sooner. The deadline is the deadline, the other date is just a recommendation. My son applied there EA last year, close to the deadline, and it didn’t affect anything. He still had his interview done within 3 weeks of applying!
No, it means the deadline is 11/1.
No they don’t.
Does sending your application by october 15 give you any advantage over sending it by october 30? o.O
Sending in your application by October 15th allows Admissions to read your application sooner, but it does NOT provide any advantage whatsoever. Many students have been accepted submitting their application 5 minutes before the November 1st deadline. So, if it’s not ready by mid-October, don’t sweat it.
Some people really cherish the idea of getting interviewed by a local volunteer Harvard alum. Sometimes, it truly is “first in, first out”. If an interview matters to you, then applying before the deadline might increase your chances of getting a local interview.
But as some students are accepted without an interview, how much does that matter?
I’m not ascribing any value to the interview (that’s another discussion altogether) – I’m just informing about how some interviews are assigned.
I had this same question and thankfully it has been answered. I actually prefer an interview like @T26E4 says bc it allows me to display who I truly am in person something an essay and a resume can’t really display
^^ That’s wonderful. But I think @T26E4 would agree, the alumni interview is probably dead-last on the list of importance for Admissions. Although this is a few years old, it’s worth a read: http://www.nytimes.com/2007/04/29/nyregion/nyregionspecial2/29Rparenting.html
@RoadtotheIvies98 Sure, I get that. But don’t overestimate its value – that’s what Gibby was alluding to. A view which I also hold (despite conducting 100s of interviews for Yale http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/discussion/comment/18838908/#Comment_18838908)
EDIT: hahaha cross-posted w/my buddy @gibby !
So did you get in?
