In terms of business opportunities, recruitment, and overall student life, would it be worth applying early decision to Wharton and possibly forgoing every applying to HYP?

I definitely don't think I can automatically get into Wharton, but I'm conflicted about whether if I do get in, I would be limiting myself from possibly better choices. I don't want to have a little voice nagging me in the back of my head.

There are things like Yale's residential colleges that are really making this such a difficult decision. Every school has something that I really like. Is Wharton truly the definitive best place to get a business education for an undergraduate student, or is HYP really a lot better and worthy of applying to as well?

In the end, I know these are all top schools, but I'd like to hear from some graduates and possibly students at these schools on weighing the options. How did those in a similar situation make a decision? I'm posting this in the UPenn + HYP forums to get a dose of every "bias".

i’m currently an econ pre-med at harvard and I can tell you that econ here is inferior to Wharton, the school that a friend of mine goes to. That being said, if you are set on business and have no real interest in other majors then I would apply ED to Wharton. If, however, you are not 80+% sure, but are rather “interested” in business, I would apply regular and SCEA to yale (i think that still exists). This is because while it is not impossible to switch out of business at Wharton, it’s a lot harder to switch to UPenn (from what I’ve heard). At the end of the day, I wouldn’t spend too much time worrying about it. If you get into either, you’ll be fine.

I’d be ecstatic to get into any of those schools. I’m just weighing the benefits of applying ED to Wharton and possibly never being able to take a stab at HYP.

I think that depends on whether you’re truly interested in getting a “business education,” or whether you’re just looking for a consulting/investment bank/M&A job after college. If you really have a deep interest in studying “business,” then obviously go to Wharton. But if you’re just looking for that type of job, then Harvard or Yale will serve that purpose just as well in my opinion. You can still work three years and then head to a top MBA, same as a Wharton student would.

I don’t really understand what this is supposed to mean. You can always transfer in to the College (if you maintain a decent GPA at Wharton). It is easier to transfer into the College from Wharton than vice versa. But if you stay in Wharton you will be studying business, period.

I agree with the other posters that you should only apply to Wharton if you are totally into studying business and that goes double for ED.
Sounds like you should apply to Wharton and the rest RD and figure things out as the process unfolds.
