Hey, for all those who are applying to Harvard, I am bit confused on whether or not I can submit ANY essay to them or if I have to choose from their listed possible topics )i.e. unusual living circumstances, travel or living experiences in other countries, books, etc..)

Anyone know?

not applying to harvard this year but you have to choose one of the choices that are given or if they say 'a essay of your choice' than pick that

You can write it about anything.

okay, great. It didn't explicitly say that you have to choose from the possible topics, but, it never said that you could submit an essay of your choice either..

i would chose from the list then, just to be on the safe side

The prompt is:

Occasionally, students feel that college application forms do not provide a sufficient opportunity to convey important information about themselves or their accomplishments. If there is something you would like us to know, please inform us below. If you wish to include an additional essay, you may do so.

Possible Topics:
- Unusual circumstances in your life
- Travel or living experiences in other countries
- Books that have affected you the most
- An academic experience (course, project, paper, or research topic) that has meant the most to you
- A list of the books you have read during the past twelve months

Because they say "possible topics," the question looks like it can be answered with any essay.

Also, it says "occasionally" and "if there is something you would like us to know, please inform us below." Does that mean the essay is optional?

Yes you can write about anything.

Yes it is optional =) =).

Harvard honestly has the best supplement :P

yes it does =) yale's is good too cuz their essay is about anything. but not as good as harvard's :)
