The Harvard site mentions that the family would not be required to contribute to the costs of "a Harvard education".

Does this include only free tuition? Or books, fees as well? Or additional aid for room and board?

If your combined family income < $60,000, your parent contribution will be $0. That includes all of the factors you mentioned above. You will be expected to contribute “student income” that is derived from your savings as well as a term-time job. I think the term-time job requirement is $1250 per semester, which is very reasonable.

Yep, it includes everything.

Everything on your COA (cost of attendance) is covered between your ability to
pay and the financial aid offered. On [this page](http://isites.harvard.edu/icb/icb.do?keyword=k51861&pageid=icb.page246751) your aid could be
similar to Family A typically.

The summer earning commitment is easily met with the opportunties you will find here.

The one thing you can be sure about when coming to Harvard is that the financial
aid officers are looking out for your best interest. They want you to focus on your
Harvard experience and not on your financial issues!
