Harvard? For a friend?

<p>I already posted this, but I need a response for my friend, so I thought I'd post again...lol</p>

<p>Hi,
Can someone get into Harvard with these type of grades? My friend wants to go to Harvard, and other top schools but she had a difficult first quarter in her weakest subjects(math and science) which is bringing down her overall semester grades. We go to a top boarding school, by the way, and she is a poor African-American. She says she KNOWS she can bring her grades up to all A's spring semester, but she wanted to know if her fall semester grades will bring her down. Please...does she stand a chance, considering the school rigor/reputation, URM, predicted improvement, good essay, SAT's, etc. She's a sophomore, by the way, and she has a lot of great things going for her from what i can tell as her friend. These are what she says she predicts to get for 1st semester-she has not yet taken the midterm exams. Can she still have a chance for Harvard? Will they cringe at her grades, and give her no chance?</p>

the will to learn,
the passion to achieve a certain goal,
the strength to make compromises</p>

<p>tell your friend to pursue what she loves, and to exploit all the advantages exposed to her. tell her to be a leader and a person who knows when to take initiative. that will get her into harvard.</p>

<p>actually I meant "bangladesh" bengali, as opposed to "calcutta" bengali. I was asking coz I know a couple of "bangladeshis" with that name. </p>

<p>anyways,I always wondered what the west bengalis in India thought of bangladesh. Isn't it weird that there seems to be a whole separate country seemingly MEANT for you guys, but you are still Indians?? I find that weird, though maybe it's because the west bengalis want to maintain their unique identities??.</p>

<p>If your friend is so interested in Harvard, why isn't she posting? Someone without the guts to do her own research about a subject like this, isn't Harvard material.</p>

Thanks for the responses for my friend. I've beens saying to her everything you guys have said, but I think she just wanted to hear from other people, plus, she does not have a CC account, so it worked out that I could do this to give her feedback...I hope it's reassuring to her.</p>

<p>AboutTime, i'm in Bangladesh... :P ..... and fratsbhai is a nickname given by this friend of mine...since i'm a girl evrybody thinks it's hilarious to call me bhai so now i'm stuck with it ..:D....</p>

<p>sifat, the EA decisions are coming out on the 15th so i don't know yet but i'm pretty sure i'll be deferred....which won't be so bad actually....:)</p>
