Harvard Housing From

Hi everybody,

I am filling in my Harvard Housing Form. Do you think it is better to put down 1-2 suitemates or 3-5? I am very sociable but I also need a good study/private space. Do you think 3-5 would be too much, or is it a better way to forge friendships as a freshman? Do you think 1-2 allows you to become closer with your roommate(s)? Which are better room assignments, and are 3-5s known for loud suite parties?

I'd love to hear current Harvard students' experience too!

Thank you!

You aren’t allowed to party in freshman dorms, which is usually enforced. I personally am quite glad I didn’t get 1, because that means your chances of hitting it off with one roommate are higher. I think 1 is one thing, 2-3 another, and 4-5 a third. I personally am not sure I could have dealt with 4-5; it’s just so much! I had two roommates, so we could all be in our common room a fair amount alone without trouble. You should be able to get the sociable/study mix you want by the short answers you give to their questions, rather than the number of roommates you put down. I’m sure there are people who want that combination at each number of roommates.

Lol why does Harvard want to know my height?!?!
Is it so that they can put people of the same height together so that they can share clothes? :p

I thought I was done with application essays till the time being. “Describe you and your ideal roommate in 250 words”. Aughh!
The housing form is making me good at procrastinating. (Well, I was always good at it, but a little more practice always helps)

OP, I think 3-5 would be a better option for the same reason exultationsy stated (hi exultationsy, hope your finals went well? :)). If you want a quiet room, then there’s that other question asking you to rate how social you want your dorm room to be on a scale of 1-5, maybe put like a 2 or something. I think I’ll go with a 3? :S
I hear many people end up studying in libraries but it depends on personal preference. Anyway, I don’t want my dorm room to be very noisy either ways.

I put 3-5 since I want to meet as many new people as I can!

They want your height for the ID card I assume…
