In early January, a Harvard alumnus came to my school and interviewed the applicants from my school. Today, I received an email from a Harvard admissions officer requesting a second interview. I live in the Boston area, so it isn't much trouble to get to Cambridge. I am wondering what this interview means.

Does this mean they really want me? Is this standard for applicants in the Boston area?

If anyone has any insight, it is much appreciated!
Thanks :)

How did your second interview go? I was also contacted for a second interview over skype because I believe my first one with an alumnus went poorly. How was your first one? Hopefully this means Harvard wants us both ! :)

It went really well! The lady told me I seemed interesting from my application, she just wanted to meet me. She said things like “see you soon,” which is a good sign. How did yours go?

That’s awesome! Unfortunately I didn’t get the same response. She just said you will get your decision on the 27th or something to that effect. But I did think it went well

FWIW: Second interviews usually happen when an applicant’s first interview report is inconclusive or on the fence. Second interviews can also happen when an interview report was accidentally lost or misplaced and the alumni cannot remember enough details to re-create the report from memory. If an applicant is asked for a second interview, it’s important to remember that it’s neither a good or bad sign.
