Harvard Interview

Does the sending of materials late ( I took the SAT IIs in Jan 28th, so Harvard received my scores on 14th Feb 2012 ) affect the date when you most probably get an interview.

I mean to say

Late materials = Late interview

Not really. One of the members on here (Anirudh?) sent his stuff late but got the interview a couple of days ago.

Sad then … Harvard forgot me

What were his stats by the way ???

He had dropped a year and had a very interesting life-story and vision in spite of slightly lower scores, so I guess Harvard really wanted to learn more about him. I haven’t gotten a Harvard interview either, so we’re in the same boat :stuck_out_tongue: The only thing we can do is wait. It’s not in our hands at all. They keep offering interviews upto mid-March, so hope is not lost.

Best of luck. Hope we both get an interview.

There’s another thread about this, check it out.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/india/1288502-harvard-interview.html

so has anyone else from the indian subcontinent gotten an interview? and also does the whole area count as one region for the adcom or do you think india is separate from the smaller countries in the area?

There are like 3 people on here who have gotten interviews from Harvard.

Its not even done state-wise, forget country-wise. If there is an alumni in your city, and they want more info, you will be offered an interview. So if you’re in a smaller city, chances are you will not get one, unless they ask you to go to Mumbai or Delhi or Bangalore or somewhere for one.

Harvard, unlike almost every other school, tends to offer interviews to only those candidates whose applications they are strongly considering. There have been cases of people getting two or even three interviews from Harvard. If you’re in a smaller city, they’d most probably skype with you.

@MyHandIsADolphin: That’s completely true, but they still do admit people without interviews, and reject some who were offered an interview. So it’s a good sign, but not anything close to a likely letter.

^Really?
I haven’t heard of any instances where students are accepted to Harvard without an interview.

I have checked Anirudha1993 profile; he seems to be a bit strange and out of the crowd - writing about Hitler, wanting to become a politician, submitting five essays etc. His obsessively passionate application was bound to get a second look.

What about the others who got an interview? Were there profiles as strange or were there scores very high or were they nationally/internationally distinguished?

@hm2711

A friend of mine who got it is internationally distinguished, more like internationally celebrated :D

I, on the other hand…got it. I can’t really call myself “nationally distinguished” or “strange” but heck, I got interviewed.

@HCaulfield - You still must have something very brilliant; Harvard doesn’t entertain normal people like me.

I knew I won’t get into Harvard … Just applied because it is need blind hahaha

I hate Harvard. ( I would have died to get in though  )

“I knew I won’t get into Harvard” :O

Why so pessimistic? The afore mentioned friend helped me realize ki thats a pretty fail way of heading to March 29th.

Ya you’re right - Harvard might be honest after all when they say that lack of interview doesn’t have a negative impact on the application.

Don’t worry so much about Harvard. You’ll be happy wherever you end up going.

Admission to HYSPM and other crazily selective colleges is more like winning a lottery than anything else…Like, after a point,it is.
