Harvard Interview

For instance, I didn't report my SAT II's and they didn't put them up, but they must have found them on my High School transcript - I got a MathIC-620/Spanish-690/Writing-790, so it's not bad, but I didn't talk about it or write it down - but they found the unofficial scores and posted them as received yesterday, though the transcript was sent a month ago (I know this probably means nothing, but my mind is crazy like that.) Where do you go, Janel?

I'm at Penn and am applying to transfer to Harvard as a Junior, and some days I am so sure I have a chance, and other days I ask myself why I set myself up for a letdown.

I know exactly how you feel.

I go to UMass, Amherst. (I feel like I've answered this question 100 times this week, haha).

Brian-did you apply to Harvard as a freshman?

Oh, yeah they put in my scores and stuff, too. I'm pretty sure it's just a way for you to check whether or not all your required materials are in -- not any indicator of an applicant's chances. Mine was done a while ago, though; I'm surprised they're just now getting around to yours. Also, make sure that you send them your official scores from the Collegeboard.

i also didn't get an interview and im rather upset by it...i put an enormous amount of effort into my application and although there a few errors here and there (ive reread my app a few times since submission), i cant imagine that i wouldnt at least be in consideration. or maybe im just overestimating my chances...

yea, same problem here =)

sigh.

Well, I applied my Senior year of high school, which was in 2003, and then I took a year off before starting at Penn, so I am definitely a completely different person than I was when I applied to Harvard back then - also, I barely completed my application as a freshman, because I had a complex about it and thought Harvard only accepted really rich people who can afford tutors. I'm also from the midwest, so there's just a lot of learning I've done in three years since coming from Iowa.

No, the 'Application Complete' page was already completed long, long ago, but they just yesterday noted on the page that they had my SAT-II scores, which aren't mandatory since I took the ACT, but they're looking at them anyway, for some reason, right now. Hmm. . .

I wish I weren't from Connecticut :( haha. It's so trite to Harvard's ears. (Even though I came from rural areas that fulfill none of the CT stereotypes).

Brian: I read on earlier threads that many people who applied as H.S. seniors did not get interviews as transfer applicants because harvard holds onto old applications; and, therefore, they still probably have the report that your alumni interviewer filled out three years ago.

I can only speak for myself, but I'm thinking one of the reasons I received an interview as a transfer is that I never applied as a freshman, so harvard never interviewed me.

Ha, interesting. Ok, I'll be on this thread in a half hour, I have to close up the library now. Talk to you guys soon.

I've also heard stories of applicants getting interviews for two consecutive years...

true...but maybe since he goes to penn, they felt it was less critical for him to have a second interview?

Janel don't worry about being from CT - I'm so sure geography matters waaayyyy less than people think - and thanks for the moral support, bnx, false hope is all I really want right now :)

Thanks, good luck Brian, you sound like a pretty solid applicant.

where in CT are you from, janel?

"and some days I am so sure I have a chance, and other days I ask myself why I set myself up for a letdown. This is so stressful! "

This is exactly how I feel too, and, believe me, the fact that I was granted an interview does not change this.

Don't be dejected for not being granted one. Many people are admitted without being interviewed!

Couple places, I moved around a lot:
-Grew up in Ellington (cow town East of the river)
-Moved to Suffield in the 8th grade
-Lived in CA and MA for a while
-Spent my last 2 yrs of HS in West Hartford

no way! i know west hartford really well. my mom grew up in w.h. i went to h.s. in stamford. did you go to conard or hall?

Beautiful! I went to Hall.
My other schools weren't doing it for me, neither was living with my mom -- so I researched the public schools of CT and got my sister to move to WH with me just so I could go to Hall, ha. Did your mom go to Conard or Hall?

She went to Conard, as did her two older sister; however, I think she was the last class at Conard (early 1970's) to live in the bugbee district. It used to be that bugbee and king phillip went to conard, but they redistricted in the mid-1970's. so that by the time her younger brother was in h.s., he went to hall. haha...i know my w.h. facts.
