Harvard Interview

Are Harvard interviews really selective? If yes, to what extent are they selective - everyone interviewed is either admitted or waitlisted?
Also, does anyone know someone who got an interview from Harvard? AFAIK, only 5 people from India have received one.

I believe everyone who has applied will receive an interview, assuming there is an alumni in the region.

However, since you’re in India, interviews are much more selective, thus, they are considering you.

Irrespective of what harvard adcoms tell you, harvard interviews in India are definitely selective. I know a lot of people who applied to Harvard. And those who didn’t get the interview, were rejected. However, those who got into Harvard/were wait listed at Harvard had gotten an interview(a couple of people did get rejected after an interview though)

Ahh so 2 of my friends have really good chances of getting in. And just to clarify, I didn’t receive an interview from Harvard.

I’ve heard that less than 10 people get an interview, while around 5 are selected each year… So, I am guessing they are pretty selective.

From what I hear ~20 people get an interview and 5-10 are accepted. Most others waitlisted. Is this correct?

@ShridharSukhani Yes, from the people who get the interview, few will be accepted and few will be waitlisted. However, I have also heard of people getting rejected aftet getting an interview, so getting rejected is also a possibility.

Reviving thread. There is actually this person perfectpixie who seems to have gotten in without one. But there is also a popular opinion on CC that she lied about playing Table Tennis on the national level.

And really, how selective are these interviews?
@gibby You keenly follow Harvard admissions. Could you please give any insight on this topic?

Harvard interviews are selective. @TVFIndia got one this year. He has a lot of international awards. He got into harvard early action for fall 2017. Nevermind, he’s a fuckin genius.

@sodiumpunny No. Interviews are only selective for Harvard and Yale (and Stanford?). I got a H interview but I’m totally unqualified (SAT below H’s average; not perfect SAT 2s; mediocre ECs at best; NO national awards/Olympiads/scholarships; rank 12/200). I thought they had mistaken me for someone else but the interviewer asked questions very specific to my app. I honestly think this theory about selective H interviews is not true.
