Harvard Interview

I just received an email for my Harvard Interview, I am a complete wreck. What is it like, I just need some perspective or will it be similar to interviews from Duke and Georgetown? Any help would be wonderful

I had interviews with representatives from Fordham, Middlebury, and Princeton. All of them were warm, receptive, and genuinely interested in me as a person, as an individual. They all went well, and I was able to freely express myself, and talk about whatever the hell I wanted to. I painted clear portraits of my character, of my identity.

Not the case with my Harvard interview/er.
He wasn't paying attention to me at all because he was too busy eying my resume and test scores.
I felt uncomfortable and slighted. The entire thing felt like an interrogation.
At the end of forty minutes, when he asked me whether or not I had any questions, I immediately said "no," and got the heck out of there.

Honestly, Huck Farvard.

This is just me, by the way.
If you read the big thread about interviews, you'll find tons of glowing and positive responses.
I guess it takes one person to really sour an institution's image.

I'm not trying to scare you.
You'll have a good interview if you just be yourself.

yeah, my interview was similar to kwu's except that I had a lady. very interrogation-y feel, not very loose. I'm sure that this is the exception, however, rather than the norm.

So at Harvard they are given your resume? When I had my Yale and Dartmouth interview they payed complete attention to me and didn't even mention my scores or academics

I had a great Harvard interview. Not as great as my MIT and Dartmouth ones, but I definitely felt that my interviewer was listening to me while taking notes and we talked about his experience with the Harvard Houses and IOP.
Harvard does not give out resumes. The interviewers are, however, asked to take down your GPA, class size, SAT I & II and AP scores so that in case those information arrive late, they can start reviewing your app with what your interviewer has written.

My Duke and Georgetown interviews were awesome and my interviewers actaully talked to me like a person, in fact I still frequently talked to both of them but for some reason I feel like Harvard is just going to be so so scary. She told me in an interview that she has no information from Harvard about me so i should bring a resume, transcript or writing sample? I think I'll go with the transcript and writing sample, but what kind of writing sample do they want, a polished paper on something she probably has no idea about or an expressing truly expressing myself?

Almost all interviews are done by alumni/ae, so it is not that productive to judge the school by the interviewer. Our daughter enjoyed her interview for Harvard, with a local alumna, and said it was basically just a pleasant conversation. No scores or resume or anything like that came up at all.

I am surprised at the amount of angst cropping up on this site about interviews. Just relax and be yourself, and have the attitude that you are also interviewing them. Ask questions about the classes, the life at Harvard, etc.etc. The interview doesn't count for very much, and should consist of mutual exploration, not interrogation. If you get an interviewer whose social skills are lacking, then just realize it is not you, it is them..and it also should not reflect on the school.
