You have a shot without being black, but being black will defininitely mean that you have an extremely good shot. They like diversity, and you are near the top not only for black students but for all students. I can't speak for if you weren't black, but since you are black and have good score I think you should get in!

Good luck!

Thanks! Before I got my ACT score I was still applying to top schools, but felt bad bc I thought that maybe it would be AA, but after getting my ACT score today it makes me feel so much better as if the admission do not have to lower the standards for minorities.

Woah, research since 9th grade? Excellent chances, although I know URM STS finalists who didn't get into Harvard. Regardless you still have excellent chances.

You should really get to work on taking those subject tests. Harvard requires 3 from all applicants, regardless of whether you submit the ACT or SAT (same for Princeton) and you only have two testing dates left (November and December).

Yeah i have signed up for the November one's already, and then I am taking biology M SAT 2 in December.

I'm no expert but I wouldn't call Harvard a safety for you. There are a lot of really smart and accomplished black students applying. Better have some real safeties in mind, as well.

^Wow...I can't believe you took the title of this thread seriously...

@mammal
he was joking.

it even said he was joking.. ha

I could be mistaken, but I didn't think Harvard had a mechanical engineering concentration.

If you don't mind me asking, where else are you applying?

They do it is called mechanical and materials science or something to that effect. I am applying (as of now) to: Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Stanford, Penn, and UT. And maybe MIT, but I want to go to medical school and MIT which has loans (yikes :()

I think you have great chances!!!!

Are you applying anywhere early action?

^^No where early. I was not sure of my scores until about two days ago.

Actually, you won't need to submit any SAT subject tests. Harvard accepts the ACT w/ writing for both the reasoning and subject tests.

Harvard does not have a mechanical engineering concentration.

^^Yes they do. It is called mechanical and materials engineering. If you go onto the Harvard engineering school website it is listed under engineering sciences.

Harvard School of Engineering and Applied Sciences - Research - Mechanical Engineering

Actually, you won't need to submit any SAT subject tests. Harvard accepts the ACT w/ writing for both the reasoning and subject tests.

You're wrong. Harvard (and Princeton) require 3 subject tests regardless of whether or not you took the ACT with writing or SAT.

This is incorrect information about Harvard, as noted above. Harvard looks for Subject Test scores in every application file.

youre black. youre in. lol
