According to this article, Harvard will be sending out many more non-athletic likely letters within the next two weeks. I'm just wondering if anyone has received one. Please post. thanks.

has anyone read the NY Times article about how colleges like Harvard are lowering their admissions standards (& possibly engaging in unethical/illegal practices) to recruit athletes? I bet those athletes are the ones they hand the likelys to.

Great news! It's a bit late lol to really calm the nerves of students who have been waiting months for a likely letter. But sooner is better than never of course. :p.

normal well-rounded applicants with stellar academics and wonderful (not super uber amazing) ECs receive likely letters too. It's not just the international #1 hook thank god. =)

from what i've read, i think likely letters will be given to those who least expect it, like those who are home-schooled or come from disadvantaged backgrounds, etc. the uber amazing probably already expect to get in, so it won't realli be a big deal to send likelies to them.

Considering the overabundance of the "well-rounded" applicants Harvard has seen this year, I'm guessing that a likely letter recipient will have to be unique in his pursuits. Likelies are meant for students who are too precious to be lost to some other school; and I don't think a "well-rounded" applicant is unique. Frankly, there are too many of them and they look the same on paper.
