Harvard Majors

My first post! I just had some questions on Harvard's concentrations. I received one of Thomas Peterson's Top Competitive College Handbooks in the mail, and it said that Harvard has a systems engineering major, but when I look on harvard.edu, I don't see it under the undergraduate concentrations. Will someone please confirm/refute this please?

On another note, I am finally a senior and I had a question about my chances of getting into Harvard or MIT. I have taken the SAT once and got a 720 verbal 680 math and 660 writing, and plan to do it again in the fall to bring up my math and writing score. I have numerous awards and honors, but I really don't have very many extracurricular activities because of an obligation to pick my sister up from after school. My mother has to work, and there are transportation issues getting from my school home (I go to school out of district). Would it seem as if I was making excuses if I put that on my application?

Come on, somebody has to know about the majors!

Here is a list of concentrations (majors):

As you will see, there is a department called "engineering sciences." I believe system engineering may be included within that department.

Also, the Division of Engineering and Applied Sciences is becoming a separate school and planning to hire about 30 more professors, so they may well be tweaking or adding concentration tracks.

You should definitely mention how you take care of other family members in your application. How you spend your "free" time is important for establishing context in evaluating your application.

do you know what year the DEAS will become a separate school?

Is it going to affect the class of 2010?
