I hear it's not very good in the sense that it's mostly case studies. Therefore, if you don't have the right background, the Program won't benefit you very much knowledge-wise.

go somewhere else then

darden (UVA) is also the same way. btw, both schools are all case studies, not most.

All case studies? Interesting approach...

I'm mean sure the Harvard name'll impress and maybe get you an interview or even the job, but in the long run would you actually lose since the experience gained from doing the H MBA will not serve as a solid foundation for climbing the corporate ladder/leading in corporate America?

I really fail to see why the Harvard would be looked at as a bad school because of it's emphasis on case studies.

If you're looking to be a finance guy or someone working within the company then yes, Harvard may not be the best of choices. But if you want to lead the company then learning by case studies is perfect.

Case studies are supposed to teach you how to think. When you're given the cases at harvard you're put into situations which may have occured to real businesses. This means you're role playing as an executive and you're forced to make decisions. Your peers will then try to tear your decision down and present their own method of how they would tackle the problem. This is very good because it not only allows you to simulate what it would be like to be making the decisions for the business but it also teaches you to defend your decisions.

Not only that but by learning with case studies you're able to see real life applications of the theories you learn about. This is good, it makes it so you don't feel like you're learning something pointless. If you want to learn about Mergers & Acquisitons, wouldn't it make sense to actually learn about mergers that happened in the past, and what worked and what didnt?

For someone leading a company knowing financial theories or the ins and outs of accounting wont be so helpful. You have people hired to know these things and provide you with their insight. Your goal is to lead these people and the company as a whole.
