I just got into both Yale and Harvard undergrad. Obviously, I'm thrilled, and I know there are pros and cons to both schools. One thing that I feel may be the tipping point for me though is how my choice will affect my chances for graduate school. I'm thinking now that I may want to go to medical school, and since Harvard's is the best in the country, I would love to go there. My question is: are my chances better to get into Harvard medical school having graduated from Harvard college than from Yale college?

The chance of getting int Harvard Medical is higher from Yale assuming everything else is the same. Harvard likes diversity, which includes students from other undergraduate schools.
You maybe looking for a change of environment too if you are at Harvard for 4 years.
Either way, great start and best of luck!

I disagree strongly with Min Cheng. Harvard is the best represented undergraduate institution at Harvard Med, and a significant number (~12 historically) of students get into Harvard Med directly from Harvard College (as well as others who have taken time off).

Does this mean your chances of getting into HMS are better if you go to Harvard?

My best guess is yes - but the difference is so small that it should be negligible in your decision making.

Choose the school where you think you’ll have the most enjoyable four years, where you’ll learn the most from your peers, where the classes offered are ones you think you’ll enjoy, where you’ll have great chances to do meaningful research.

Don’t choose a school because it might increase your likelihood of Harvard Med School admittance by a fraction of a percent.

Thanks. I’m in the same boat. this helped a lot :)
