Yay, someone realized that. Too bad eight years ago we were too caught up in “omigosh, less tax. Screw the environment”.

This is seriously pathetic. Attacking someone’s political views in a thread asking for advice on a college choice seems misguided and immature at best, and indicative of psychological problems at worst. Aside from your generalizations about the policies of conservatives, and lumping of them all together into one group (both of which are likewise wrong), you have contributed nothing to the thread by doing so. Focus on what the OP is asking, not criticizing their political views.

^thank you

I’m an MIT alum, class of '06.

When I got to MIT, I was a pretty staunch conservative, and I didn’t find that people at MIT attacked me for my views – don’t get me wrong, people at MIT love to argue (that’s what scientists do for a living, after all :)), so I got into a lot of discussions about my views, but I always felt my thoughts were respected, even if not agreed with.

And I think you’d find that tennis and a movie as a way to have fun is perfectly normal for a lot of MIT students. People know when to turn off the science and turn on a mean game.

This was just linked to on the Brown forum and I think it’s probably worth reading:

Mollie- I’ve actually been following your blog and am really glad you are commenting on this thread! That is really helpful.

modestmelody-thanks for the link!!! It looks to be very interesting.

Um, I’m extremely liberal, but this is not the place to be bashing someone’s political views. Seriously. She’s not going to be “swayed” by anything posted online anyway, so stop feeling like you’re being productive by telling her she’s dumb to be conservative. The OP was very brave to put her (unpopular) political and personal details on this site and you all are probably making her regret the decision. Not cool. Let’s all be nice, ok?

To respond, I’d say that while Princeton is probably the most politically conservative, it is a huge drinking/partying school (my parents went there, so I am saying this based on more than just reputation). I think Brown would be too liberal for you (politically and socially), so I’d choose between MIT and Harvard, if I were you. MIT seems like it suits your interests slightly better, but it’s more expensive, so it’s your call. All are amazing options, first and foremost, so congratulations!! I’m sure you could have a great experience at any of these places.

While they’re all on the liberal side of the aisle (every college is), you might have luck at MIT.

MIT students tend to be less interested in politics (humanities) than other top schools, so you probably wouldn’t have people constantly annoying you about your political beliefs. Unless you’re stupid enough to mention creationism, that is.

^You seem awesome and affirmed what I was thinking…

Have a great time at Wesleyan, a ton of my friends are going there; I hope you meet them!

Thanks!! I look forward to meeting them. I’m somewhat of a goodie-two-shoes myself, so I’m glad to hear that there will be like-minded people there :)

rolls eyes

^I wasn’t rolling my eyes at flying_pig but at kameron something btw

What, you roll your eyes at evolution?

Maybe you’re better off at Liberty…

Wait… Not to bring political argument back again… Are you HONESTLY going to MIT and laughing at Evolution. They, at least there, tend to belief the truth…

I think the eye-rolling was because the suggestion of being a creationist was so ridiculous (though correct me if I’m wrong, annaproof).

^ You got it!

To the others: are you really that thick?

No, I’ve just been around too many stupid Republicans who believe in biblical literalism, a giant plot to create a socialist state, etc.

they are all good schools, visit them and see which one appeals to you the most.

And people stop harassing her for being conservative you’re just making yourself look like an ******* and an idiot, people can have whatever political beliefs they want.

^another smart person.

Also, about the visits… I’m afraid of making a decision based solely on a few days of events made to make the college more appealing…
Is this crazy?
