Harvard MIT Math Tournament

Did anyone here go? I was a proctor and I enjoyed the whole event. I especially liked navigating the maze of buildings. They had real 1950’s feel with the wood doors with frosted glass. The glass was hand painted with the faculty's name and department. Everyone was wondering why all the pipes in the ceilings had been left exposed.

I went as a parent/proctor and had a great time. You are right about the facilities. If I remember correctly, I was in 5-134. It was so cold in there that kept my hat and coat on during the hour of proctoring (and apologized to the students for doing so...hats off indoors, right?) The external windows seem to be the original ones - lots of thermal loss.

This was my second year. Big fun.

I went, it was our third year so it was fun going around with more of a sense of direction. It was so awesome just looking at all of the bill boards, doing the random problems posted in physics wing, seeing solutions from tim abbott on the wall in math dept. no punting signs on doors. i even found time to slip a love letter under ben and matt's door...

My son competed while he was at Exeter. Any idea who won this year?

It was kind of funny to have the team from Florida do so well at a meet that had all the traditional math powerhouse teams from the Northeast. They killed every one in the guts round. Someone suggested that they did so well because their weather allows them to have math team practices all year round. LOL

is there any way to find the individual results other than looking at the websites? (they don’t provide all the names on the website)

bump 10char

Three Bay Area teams went to HMMT. We all placed in the Top 10. West coast domination!

But then again, AAST destroyed us at SMT, so I guess we’re even.

“The external windows seem to be the original ones - lots of thermal loss.”

It’s still the case about the windows and thermal loss. One of the parents we brought this year has an HVAC business. He kept shaking his head and saying, “This place is on the cutting edge of energy research? This is embarrassing!”

I was supposed to host two high schoolers, but they both punked out on me at the last minute. Lame!

guys…this thread is 6 yrs old now

HMMT is thirteen years old. And better than ever.

hey, sorry about posting the same question over and over again…but do any of you who went know how to get our scores?

and I agree with geomom, HMMT was GREAT this year

In past years they have emailed the individual scores to the team organizers.
We haven’t gotten ours for this year yet, either.
