What exactly is this? Do you get both a PhD in a science and your MD like the name suggests? How hard is it to get into? How long (in years) does this program last? and What does it cost? Also, any additional information would be much appreciated. Thanks.

[Harvard-MIT Health Sciences and Technology](http://hst.mit.edu/index.jsp)

You could try reading the website. I found it using Google!

The program is called HST (Health Sciences and Technology), and is one of the MD/PhD tracks within Harvard Medical School. In HMS’ MD/PhD programs, you can get your MD from one of the HMS med school tracks (HST or New Pathway), and your PhD from any PhD-granting program at Harvard or MIT. You have to be admitted to both the MD program and the PhD program separately; there’s no joint admission.

Medical school at Harvard lasts four years. Your PhD will take as long as a PhD takes – there’s no set time limit. A PhD in biomedical sciences currently takes about 5.5 years on average. At Harvard, MD/PhD students don’t pay for medical school – while they’re in medical school, they make the NIH stipend (which is ~$20,000), and while they’re in graduate school, they make the stipend paid by the program (which is ~$30,000 for biomedical sciences at Harvard and MIT this year).

There are many other MD-Ph.D programs too.

[MD-PhD Dual Degree Training - AAMC](http://www.aamc.org/students/considering/research/mdphd/) is a good resource. There are also a few forums (I’m not sure if it’s kosher to link them here?) that have subforums focused on MD-Ph.D if you want to get more information. A simple google search should give you them.

Thank you all very much
