BTW I dont need financial aid, but Im not rich

Maybe consider Pton. They totally ignore frosh year so your ignominious 2.0 wouldn't matter.

BUMP

BTW i found out that I got a B in Geometry as a frosh and a C in Algebra 2 H as a sophmore

GPA is still the same though

You reviewed for me, so I'll review for you.

Your improvement is amazing...I completely commend you...but your GPA is low for some of these schools. The average recommendation seems to be extraneous and may hurt your chances. THe lack of variation in your ECs (mostly sports) may be slightly off-putting but the commitment to sports will definitely help. Good job on AP Chemistry! Of course Northwestern is your best bet of the stretch schools, but get a good interview at Harvard and that will definitely help.

Out-of-state UVA: 10% and probably, even less. Only 1/3 of their applicants being out of state, your GPA will kill you. It is possible--but certainly not probable.
Princeton: 10% and even less. They will look at the cumulative GPA. But I'm not giving ANY student except legacies a better chance of getting into Princeton, including myself, unless they've cured cancer.
MIT: Difficult to say...you have great math scores, but because they normally take kids who also have math extracurriculars or science fair projects, I'll say 10% and even less here as well. One of my friends applied here ED and will not be getting in. Sadly, it's the reality of college. Barring a miracle, I'd say no--for anyone in your (or my, for that matter) shoes.
Harvard: Have a good interview and your chances are much better. The AI (have you checked it out?) puts you at 6/7, because of your rank, so I'd say a 40% chance. Perhaps--perhaps--a little better. Same for Yale, Stanford, Penn, Georgetown. Dartmouth receives fewer applications; have you thought about it?

You'll get into maybe 3-4 of the reach schools, I bet.

I think your being a little harsh.

This person got a 1580, and has a perfect GAP for a year and a half

I dont think he should have to suffer going to an inferior school because he was immature and didnt work freshman year.

Sports ECs take up more time and effort than any other EC, and he has 3

good chances everywhere

with your sat score...youll be fine
you might not get in EVERYWHERE but youll be fine...but definatly add atleast one more safety

Less than 10% UVA, 10% at Princeton but 40% at Harvard? I love princeton but that makes no sense. Princeton IGNORES frosh GPA so he has around a 3.8 at the minimum in their eyes. I say good chances at all.

sit back and relax because your apps will look good. you COULD get into all of those schools, it just depends who else is in the applicant pool this year. There is nothing else for you to do

Your GPA is a little low, but you have made huge inprovements, so I think you have a chance.

He does have good chances everywhere, but I don't think I'm being harsh about anything but Princeton. (They don't even put in the freshman year grades towards GPA calculation? Cool, that makes it better.) I live in VA, so I know how tough it is for out-of-state people to get in (even in-state people have it pretty tough.) When you imagine how many people will be applying from out of state and how many will get in...and they don't take off frosh GPA.

But I love Princeton too--in fact it's really my #1 choice--so I seem to be transposing my "Oh-God-I'll-never-get-in" onto everyone else on this board. On the other hand, I also have the tendency to believe that everyone and anyone has a better chance than me! ^_^
