Just had a question. I have been in my Model UN for 4 years now and I love it. Its my most important EC and I look forward to it every year.
A few family friends came over yesterday and said their son was helping coordinate the Harvard Model UN, and there is a undergrad and high school one. When is the high school UN, because I can't seem to find it on their site?
Also, how do I attend, does my HS contact them?

Not that I am doing this for admissions, because I am truly into MUNs, but is there a plus about this if the adcoms know? Even if there isn't, it makes no difference, I just want to attend. Also, can you take a tour there on the same day? And what is this card thing everyone mentions that they sign to show they visited?

Sorry for the bountiful Qs :), but Thank you in advance.

It's not a MUN, it is Model Congress. It's from February 21-24 this year, an it is way too late to sign up. For future reference, a sponsor from your high school could contact them about signing up a delegation from your school, but I don't think individuals participate. It's a four day weekend, and Saturday morning is "Harvard Day." I think you can participate in regular tours if they are offered, but I don't think they offer any special tours, as the program is not at all geared towards admissions. This is my third year attending, but I didn't apply to Harvard, so I'm not sure how that would work out or if it would be an advantage at all. They have a website if you want more information.

HMUN for this year just passed. I was one of the attendees actually. It was (if my memory is correct) Dec 13 or whatever that weekend was. this is the site for it for 2007 HMUN. I don't know how to contact them personally but I'm sure it's around.

I do know that you CAN take a visit at nearly every college MUN conference that I've been to/known about. I don't think that they would note it as a visit because there's so many students who are just touring for the sake of being there but, I could be wrong. Harvard Day is pretty cool, just a btw. =] What Ilovecrew said about Harvard day and the time span is the same for HNMUN. Just so you know.

I second the post above me. I was also at Harvard Model UN this past December (and the past 2 years, as well.). It really is a great MUN...tough, but definitely enjoyable. And Harvard Day is wonderful (except when it snows and you get stuck walking around looking for lost sophomores in high heels...).

As for its effect on admissions, though, its probably negligible. If you win an award, it might help, who knows. But as for just being there, I doubt it'll do much for you. You can take a tour if I'm not mistaken, though its just a "standard" tour, nothing different. And besides, with all the fun stuff to do around the Harvard area (and the probability of snow), you probably aren't going to want to spend your few committee-free hours touring.

And yes, for you to be able to attend, you'd have to have the high school contact them. But you'll need a delegation of a few kids and chaperones and such; you can't go as an individual as far as I know.

Darn, I wish I had known, I would have loved to try. I am sure my school would support it too. Either way, I definitely want to visit the campus soon :).
