sirquixote - yeah, I was pretty shocked by some people who said they read 50-70+ books a year. I could NEVER imagine doing that much, but again it’s all due to individual tastes/preferences. It took me SIX months to read the book “IT” by Stephen King. (insert “crazyeye” smiley here.)

I wrote about how my favorite author, Amy Tan, has influenced me.

I just wrote a letter as Sturmun D. Rang, where I discussed my love for manga, Bunyan, and the backs of cereal boxes. It was flippant, but I liked it.

But now that I think over it, I wonder if submitting one was the right thing to do. After all, didn’t they say not to submit something unless it was of exceptional quality? I doubt they’d want to read yet another angsty teen manifesto…

50 books per year is quite managable? I mean, if you are the type of person who carries along a book with him/her like me, so you can read any time you have a little time (in the bus/waiting in line etc.) you can even read more.

But then again, I would be hard-pressed to find the time to both finish War and Peace and do my school work/EC/job/social things in one week… Haha! War and Peace takes at least 20 hours to finish I think… Possibly 30…

@Ksarmand: You like Sturm und Drang literature/thinkers then? Nice! I have read a couple of things by Goethe (well, actually, in school I am trying to read Faust in German now) and Schiller.

I wrote about imagination, creativity, a liberal arts education and greatness. My teacher who read it said it was “out there” and then shrugged.

@GuiltyBystander: I love Sturm und Drang literature. Faust was the first work of that type I read, and I just fell in love it with it from there. I’m not so hot on Schiller, though. :)

I wrote about my experiences during the Bosnian War. It was a rather long essay, but I think it definitely gave information that couldn’t be found anywhere else in my application.

I wrote about a book I read, and I mainly focus on being creative and how should we cope with globalization…

kinda too seriously…

How my identity and approach to life are shaped by timelessness, and how I feel intimately connected to both the Ancient Near East and the transhuman future.

I used my Princeton supplement. It dealt with my interest in linguistics and how a class I took over the summer on the subject allowed me to understand my struggle in learning English when I was younger (I was was not born here; immigrated ten years ago).

I wrote about how taking IB HL Maths helped change my views of how to approach life and studying :D

I didn’t write anything because it was optional.

I wrote about my life, background, diverse experiences. I believe that’s what they wanted.
