Harvard or Cornell

So, I want to apply to a summer program at either Harvard or Cornell and heres my argument. I would like to attend Harvard University over Cornell Univeristy when I apply as a senior. Currently, I am a sophmore. Right now I think the two courses I want to take at Cornell look a bit more appealing and rigorous than the courses at Harvard. Im from NY and I have a regents examination the week the Harvard SSP starts, but Cornell SSP starts a week after the regents examination. Yet, Harvard extra activities seem more appealing than Cornell's. So my main question i guess is would not going to the Harvard SSP affect my chances of getting into Harvard U. Which one would be better for my situation?

BTW is an essay required for the Harvard and Cornell SSP

lulz this made my day

…Or you can get off CC, do something useful with your life, and improve your application to both schools.

I agree, apply to both. My understanding, however, is that attending a summer program doesn’t really boost your chances of being accepted as an entering freshman at either Harvard or Cornell.

Not going to a summer program at either school doesn’t affect your chances at all. So just apply to both and if you’re accepted to both, attend whichever is more appealing to you.

the summer programs are more of a marketing strategy to give students some kind of connection to the school so they will be more apt to apply and if accepted to attend than a student with no other connections or experiences at the school.

yeah im definitely applying to cornell over harvard mainly cause although i like harvard and its area cornell just seems to draw me in closer and theres the fact cornell is like 1,000 dollars cheaper than harvard

$1,000 cheaper is nothing when you’re paying around 180k total.

The OP is talking about the cost of summer programs for prefrosh, not regular tuition.

i think the cornell program will also be better because it doesnt conflict with your exams. however, that being said, going to a summer program doesnt give you a 1 up in the admissions process. there have been students who went to summer programs and ended up being rejected to that school. there are plenty of students at both schools who dont attend summer programs at all.

Yeah…the only summer program I attended was Summer@Brown, and I didn’t even end up applying there. lol
