I wish I knew about things like the Morehead when I was applying to college.

They’ve been having a ton of success in winning Rhodes recently (2 Morehead winners in each of the last two years alone) and the scholarship money and the personal attention make it seem like a winning combination. Honestly, if you’re deciding between full sticker at HYPS or the Morehead, I would go with the Morehead hands down. I had an amazing undergraduate experience at my HYPS, but the Morehead just seems wonderful.

With the benefit of hindsight, I think I would trade the prestige of HYPS for the Morehead experience/financial benefits.

Edit: Just saw that you have full financial aid from H, I would personally pick Harvard in that case unless you really want the personalized experience of the Morehead.

Something similar - what about the Park at NC State? Worth turning down Harvard acceptance for the Park? It certainly has a smaller alumni base than the Morehead because it hasn’t been around as long but it still provides incredible opportunities. Again, you’re 1 in 50 rather than 1 in 1500.

Care to elaborate? What about Princeton, Stanford etc. where financial aid is not nearly as strong? /quote

FA is still strong at these schools. Even if you had to take out a small loan, the benefits of having a Harvard, Princeton, Yale, or Stanford education last for the last of your life. I didn’t really realize it until I got to Harvard.
