Harvard party scene

Hi guys, I am applying to Harvard and it is my first choice, so I was wondering how is the party scene there?? I really don´t party a lot and I don´t want to be in a environment overload with party crazy kids. I mean hang out with friends in bar or something..sure that´s fine. Also, I really love to participate in as much clubs and Ecs available from the university, do you think Harvard is a good place for me considering these characteristics???

Thanks for the help! :)

You will be just fine at Harvard. Most people stay in on weekends and just chill, watch movies, talk with friends, read, grab dinner in the square… I would say about 20% of the student body goes out on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. People mostly go to house parties, frats and final clubs… But it’s definitely not a majority. I think no matter whether you like to party or not, you will find people like you.

Also, most people at Harvard are involved in 3+ extracurriculars. It’s definitely not like high school, these extracurriculars can take you more than 10 hours a week so you cannot really do more than 4 or 5. But the good thing is, because people put so much time in them, they all do pretty legit stuff.

Hope this was helpful!

Go watch The Social Network. Imagine busloads of hot BU girls coming over, kissing, stripping, making out… hmmmm Harvard sounds awesome.

Hahahhaha came here just to post that

I don’t think the 20% statistic mentioned in this thread is true. I’m a sophomore and parties are a really important part of my experience at Harvard. I’m not in a finals club or a fraternity and still find tons of parties outside them.

As a non-partier, I would say that parties are there but not a part of campus life that will overwhelm you if you would prefer to avoid them. As Judill said, there are parties on campus. However, I would say that they are not an inescapable part of campus life. There are a lot of other things to do, and many non-partiers willing to just hang out and watch a movie.
