nor does it have an official pre-med major...</p>
<p>In fact, colleges do NOT set the pre-med curriculum, that is
set by the medical schools... you can major in ANYTHING you want, as long as you take all the pre-med requirements:
1 year biology, 2 years chemistry, 1 year physics, 1 year calculus

<p>Many, but certainly not all, pre-meds major in biology, biochem, chemistry, or physics... you could major in english or government or history or whatever,
as long as you take the above science courses.</p>
<p>Note that AP Bio does NOT count at all, AP credit can pass you out of one semester each of physics and chem, as long as you take an upper level course... AP Calculus DOES count.</p>
<p>k, you know how harvard (college) says take the most rigorous courseload in high school for admissions, would a full IB diploma with one non-IB science (eg. chemistry, even though or school offers chem IB)--i'll take it in the summer-- still be considered one? i don't think taking all three sciences is a good idea.</p>
<p>How hard are the science classes for pre-med anyway? Like BS50, Chem 17/27, Chem 5/7, Math 1a/1b, Physics 1a/1b, etc.</p>
<p>The classes are hard in that they take a lot of time- long labs, long psets. But people work together to get homework done; it won't be you and your textbook burning the midnight oil. I don't think the classes are impossibly hard. Many of them have a lot of tests (4 or so) throughout the semester, and you can sometimes replace your lowest grade with a better grade or drop one grade, depending on the class. The profs aren't out to get you and make you fail. You learn a lot from these classes instead. There, some nice broad generalizations :)</p>
<p>Organic chem is supposed to be rather difficult. The other classes you mentioned, not particularly. (I mean, most people who plan to concentrate in hard science probably place out of half of them.)</p>
