Harvard-preppy kids

IS it just me, or are most of the kids that get into Harvard "preppy"... My cousin, who gets straight As, went to RSI, was an intel semifinalist, almost perfect SAT scores, etc got deferred from Harvard while this kid at my school, who looks like Prince William and wears J Crew yet has less than perfect SAT and gpa got into Harvard (his ECs were just some debate, Student Council things)

Yes, all Harvard students are preppy.

I'm pretty sure they don't look at where you shop when deciding if you get in or not.

I got into Harvard, and I'm certainly not preppy... I definitely had a punk rock period of my life, went through a long thrift-store chic period, and now dress i mostly jeans and tshirts. Definitely a lot of preppy people there, but I'd hazard a guess that it's less preppy than Princeton. Didn't see too many goth/punk/alternative dressed kids there. THen again, it was the middle of winter and everyone was wearing heavy jackets.

The last three people I know that went to Harvard were all very different. One was a very preppy lacrosse player, one was captain of the tennis team perfect sat spoke 7 languages barbie, and the third is a 5 foot tall asian kid that has a rolly backpack and is always smiling. So to answer your question, I believe that no, not every Harvard attendee is preppy.

Rolly backpack boy? Hahahah. I totally met him already on Facebook and read his admissions essay about his love for his rolly backpack, LOL.

Lol i don't think preppiness is some sort of criterion for Harvard. And not all students there are preppy...I know plenty of kids there who are quite the opposite!!! As for your cousin, crap happens, unfortunately. He sounds super-qualified, but maybe they took a lot of physics/math kids last year and are looking more for debaters/leaders, like the preppy kid, this year. And who knows, maybe your cousin will still get accepted!!! Basically, college admissions are arbitrary, and "preppiness" (unless the kid was an 8th-generation legacy) probably played no role.

I don't know what they looked like back in high school, but walking around the Harvard campus I haven't seen much preppiness. The typical Harvard uniform is a hoodie and jeans in various degrees of raggedness.

^strange, I thought the typical Harvard kid looks like a male abercrombie and fitch model, or am I thinking Princeton?

a typical asian nerd got in from my school

You are indeed thinking Princeton.

Harvard, all the way:

Well, I don't think RSI students are within their target demographic. He should have applied to MIT. That way he could take his humanities courses at Harvard and his math/science courses at MIT; that is assuming that he is a prospective math/science major.

stereotype, look it up?

I love how all you people are assuming its a he... Stereotypes... Its a she

lol rolly backpack love ***

Makes no difference. At Harvard, many kids of either sex wear mostly hoodies and jeans. Not very preppy.
