Doesn’t it also mean that Princeton has “identified” the applicants best for herself better? Don’t get me wrong; I know cross-admits are unavoidable, but can Princeton’s admission policy not be appreciated in any way here? Unlike UPenn, they are need-blind.

IMO, the sample sizes here are too small to draw any conclusions, even on CC, unless there is an overwhelming trend. Here, H wins, then YPM are all about the same, with S being the loser.

Harvard is pretty average so far. Yale has a slight edge. EWHO did a similar survey last year, Yale won the contest, with MIT being the last. Both surveys appear to debunk the myth of Harvard dominance in cross-admit contests, and directly contradict the assertion by NYT’s article. Perhaps elimination of early action takes a toll on Harvard’s yield. But then, it cannot explain why Princeton beats Stanford two years in a row (the margin last year much smaller). Assuming these same kids applied for most of the HYPSM, the cross admits will be unlikley north of 1000. A sample size of 100 (assuming we will reach it) will not be insignificant.

In my school, Yale beats Harvard, and MIT beats Princeton by a big margin.

^I think the fact that the survey is on CC makes it somewhat less significant. In my experience, there are a lot less students (that are not explained by population differences) from the west who end up going to west-coast schools than students from the midwest and northeast. The latter students are generally caught up in the ivy old-money prestige. You don’t see many threads start with “Chances for Stanford, Caltech and Cal,” but there are countless ones that are like “chance me for ivies.” Now, my argument is completely subjective, but whatever.

In my school, Harvard and Stanford are tied, with both around a 100% yield (the only recent cross admit in my memory chose Stanford). Yale and Princeton are slightly lower. No one from my school ever gets into MIT, and the two people in the last five years who got in didn’t go.

@basketballbabe13, can we add HarvardStandford? He posted in the Stanford’s board but never came here. Maybe he did not see this.

Even with a big trend these data would be worthless beyond providing some light entertainment. See post #159 for reasons why the data are meaningless.

The data aren’t a tell-all, but I wouldn’t call them meaningless.

I don’t quite agree with this assessment. At least the results match with the SAT data. See Post #129.

Or maybe the kids who choose Princeton are the enthusiastic type who love their school and want to tell everyone. :)

Not to be a party pooper as I think this thread is very useful, but I’d like to point out a bad point in this thread’s concetp: Harvard and Princeton do not offer early admission. I suspect that some students did what I did and, trying to save work/application fees, chose which of these schools they wanted mostly to attend before applying to all of them. If those were MIT, Yale, or Stanford, then maybe they got in early and did not apply to any others. I did this, so I know it is a possibility for others. MIT would have won even if I were admitted to all five, so when I got in early my decision was made… though I was not admitted to (or denied from) any of the other schools.

that’s a good point ham.

I think ham’s point also is consistent with the higher yield that Yale, MIT and Stanford experience with their early admits compared to the regular admits. Yale, for example, had a yield rate of about 80 percent for its early admits for the Class of 2012.

Princeton will be taking students off the wait-list with its yield in the high 50’s:

Wow, H-Y, Y-P and M-P are the big numbers of cross-admits, and they are all even. This is epic! Come on, Stanford matriculates 2013, join the game, or your institute really looks bad.

On Stanford board, two people: HarvardStanford and johnfn- chose Stanford over Harvard. But they don’t bother to come to this thread.

See the link
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/stanford-university/708091-did-any-you-chose-stanford-over-harvard-year.html

So if you include them, the new result will be

S: 8/22.
H-S: 3-3

OP has a rule for matriculate to directly input their information into this thread. Since this will break the rule, OP has to be fine with this. Otherwise, why not input information about somebody you just hear about? Furthermore, the counting should be 8/24 even with these 2 Stanford additions.

anymore responses for this thread?

It appears that Stanford cross matriculates snub the thread. Alternatively, there are not many cross Stanford admits afterall.

Professor101,

Stanford has the most comprehensive athletics program in the West and about 800 student-athletes that compete in a major athletic conference. That’s about 1/8 of the student body. They have won the Directors’ Cup for 14 straight years. Many of them were Olympians. Perhaps you should think about how that affects the SAT range before jumping to a conclusion so quickly.
