harvard, princeton, yale teacher recs

Does harvard, princeton, yale accept one extra recommendation outside of the 2 teacher recommendations required?

I think so, most schools do.

Strongly discouraged.

yep, its discouraged. they dont want to read any extra stuff lol

Any quotes.websites to support those claims? I think I've heard that before but only Yale's website seems to have mentioned it.

I went to an information session and the Harvard rep put it bluntly: If you send it to us, we'll read it. But it damn well better be for a good reason--to explain or detail something we should know.

There is a saying- "the thicker the file-the thicker the kid", and Harvard is one of the colleges that this saying applies to. If a college says it does not want extra recommendations, and you send them anyway, it looks like you can't understand basic directions, which is grounds for a quick rejection.

I've visited all of these schools, and what they tell you is, if the recs all say something different, then send them. So, if you already have a rec from you english and french teacher, for example, and you want your math teacher to talk about how great you are, and how you are Math club president, etc., then go for it. Dont send them recommendations that don't really add anything, though.

So if their website doesn't say anything about extra recommendations, you should still just send them if they add something? Someone please answer

lol wow you just dont get thepoint do you...5 people just said to send them if they add something

um, i always took it that extra letters came from people outside school...that would be the point wouldn't it?
