While I did only create my account today, this has been a burning question in my mind since my interview. I also have never heard it before and it may be a oddity to begin with that an interviewer tells his/her interviewees what their status is. I have been asking around and I never have heard of it - no one in my area at least has - that’s why I am asking. I guess you can take it at face value, but I will state it clearly, no I am not trying to “fool others”. It was stated.
applied early and got deferred, then made a B in biology, which is especially bad because I applied for a major in the biological sciences so I’m probably doomed
Any chance they will release decisions before the 3/31?
@randomsguy no it is 100% coming out on the 31st, ivy day
Unless you got a call like some of the people in here or get likely letters. Sometimes, you can actually receive your REJECTION letter before Ivy Day if the college chooses to send you that decision but I highly doubt that’s gonna happen
@hola1997 Ivies can’t send likely letters anymore. March 15 was the last day they could
Yes, that was what I was referring to since the original question was if they could release decision “before March 31st” .
Do you think I have a chance? I was deferred, but very few people get off the deferral list and admitted
3.4 weighted GPA
SAT-1500/2400
I took 10 AP Classes All in total
I am a black male from the hood, who watched his cousin get shot by gang members, and has had to take care of a mom who had a stroke. I am extremely underprivileged, but I have some very awesome extra curricular activities. I am president of my school’s debate team, and I’ve had to be the coach and president because our school couldn’t afford a coach. I am ranked as the best teenage orator in my city, and one of the top 80 orators in the nation. I started a tutoring program for black students at my school, because blacks were performing way lower than other ethnic groups. And because of that program, all of the failing black students who participated in the program ended up passing. I interned for a state senator, and when interning for him I hosted a debate tournament for inner-city youth. In addition, I wrote a bill called AB 672 which gives assistance to prisoners who are wrongfully convicted. The bill that I wrote was actually voted by the California State senate and signed by the state governor, and now the bill I wrote is now in effect. I also have won several awards for Mock Trial, Academic Decathlon, and I am a columnist for a local newspaper. I also have stopped a lot of peers in my neighborhood from joining gangs and getting addicted to drugs. My grades are low, but I’ve done amazing things. Do you think that they’ll look past my low gpa and give me a chance? I was deferred with a really low GPA and because I wasn’t automatically rejected like a lot of kids with high GPAs I think that may be a sign.
None whatsoever!!
Maybe, maybe not. You do have a compelling story so that’s why they probably defer you but you have to be aware that you are up against really underprivileged applicants who have way higher GPA and test scores than you. This is not to undermine you or anything but I am just stating that we all have very slim chances. You might a little bit better chance since you know, your story is pretty tough and you showed great conviction but beyond this, it’s just mere speculation. Remember, at Harvard, you need to get at least 51% of the votes from the committee to get accepted.
@amoore001 Wow, you’ve been through a lot. That’s awesome how you’ve accomplished so much. All I can say is that Harvard (or any school for that matter) would be honored to have you grace their musty classrooms with your brilliance. :x good luck and I hope u get in
@amoore001 - I saw you posted this on Northwestern’s thread right before results came out. Did you have any luck there?
Hi all, reintroducing myself here—I’m a deferred applicant and am hoping for the best come March 31!
@aBitOfLuck what could possibly be the reason for getting wait listed at uchicago and rejected at NU.?
UChicago is definitely more competitive.
Also what are my chances at Carleton.
I got into Warwick, Durham and Manchester in UK.
@chanceno Uchicago wait lists a lot more people than NU - even if they don’t come off the wait list.
So there is no chance for me at the ivies?
Everybody has a chance. If you’re not admitted its because there are too many qualified applicants to be admitted and even the admissions office states that about 80% of applicants would do well at Harvard but sadly they cannot admit that many students. So if you get rejected its probably not because your lacking credentials, it’s most of the time due to so many qualified candidates. I’m stressed too so I know what you’re feeling but in the end you’re going to be okay. Hope you get in though!!
@Chanceno I think that you could be waitlisted at UChicago because it relies heavily on essays and “soft” parts of the application to make decisions; NU is a bit more score-focused.
Chicago is far more competitive overall, though.
I have a question: does getting an interview mean anything? My emotional mom and older sister thought that it did, and so did my guidance counselor. But mind you, I come from a district where two-three kids apply to Ives each year, plus my family has zero experience with these kinds of schools whatsoever. So yeah, does it?
