I’m extremely nervous because i got a bunch of acceptances from decent schools, but then I realized that those schools are not really good for my major… So I was banking on the schools that are higher up on my list, but after getting rejected by 2 of them, I’m losing hope for the rest
my stats are also not even close to competitive for the ivies… Literally all I want is to feel as though all the hard work I put into high school was worth it.
Hi guys! I posted way back (maybe on this thread). I’m really excited to hear about the decision day! But with that lovely 4% chance I welcome rejection with open arms. XD Got in to JHU and Emory which was pretty much the extent of my exploration of out of state but with finances (sigh* having another sibling in univ) I don’t know how everything will work
All I can say is, good luck everyone on that day. No matter what happens, everything happens for a reason and just the fact that you applied shows you have ambition and drive! And that same feeling can make you succeed anywhere you go. Good luck lovelies!
@neta427 that ast reason about high school^^^is my reason and motivation for seeing senior year end with success in the end. You can do it!
Are your chances at getting into these Ivy Leagues any higher if you’re born in another continent (Africa), an immigrant, both parents w/ sub-college educations, low income status, have family problems, moved several times, and still manage to excel in academics and participate in ECs?
@krauser126 they certainly take such restrictions into consideration
@krauser126 Colleges definitely take hardships such as those and being a minority into consideration. College definitely admire students who have excelled in their academics and ECs despite the obstacles they have faced.
Does the admissions office email school guidance counsellors with information about who they’re going to admit?
There may be some feeder schools who typically have a suite of applicants and whose GCs work closely w/H admissions – but NO – there is no policy to notify GCs about decisions.
This may seem like a horrible question, but it is a legitimate one for me: Is it true that most ppl who get into Stanford do NOT get into Harvard? I’ve heard this from multiple sources and I just got accepted to Stanford, so I would like to know if it is true… Other than that, good luck to everyone here! I’m sure you are all amazing and your determination will surely drive you towards great feats!!
Maybe that happened last years because Harvard and Stanford have totally different criteria. But no, I know some people who got into both.
S and H arrive at decisions independently. But your sample size is tiny so it’s foolish to try to infer patterns. It’s not as if H knows whom Stanford admitted anyway or vice versa.
Also, the students that turn down a Harvard offer mostly are accepting a spot at Yale Princeton, Stanford or MIT.
People /do get into both, but the two schools look for (and attract) very different people. I think most people have a gut feeling about which of the two they belong at.
Edit: I also know a few people who turn down Harvard for AB Duke Scholarship! In the end, if you get into several top schools, it really depends on the money.
@Monster1997 @T26E4 Alright, thanks guys! Guess I’ll keep my fingers crossed to be in that small sample accepted to both.
Does anyone know of someone who got rejected at Harvard who got into Stanford?
My friend did. He’s studying at Stanford right now
Well I got rejected from Stanford (my only rejection so far) ea so I’m hoping that the pattern holds true for me to get into Harvard
There is no pattern. Just possibility. A lot depends on whether you are the person they hope to include in their next class. Just hope for the best and prepare for the worst
Top pre-med types routinely turn down Harvard and also YPSM for combined med programs with guaranteed admission to med school. Nearly everyone accepted to Brown’s PLME or Northwestern’s HPME also got acceptances to the top Ivies. Those programs are much harder to get into than any of these top schools and provide an amazing guarantee. Other exclusive programs like the Penn dual degree ones and also scholarships like AB Duke and Cornelius Vanderbilt all have students who turned down HYPSM.
According to Harvard’s own admissions site, only 79.8% of admitted students last attended, and that INCLUDES the 93 students (accounting for almost 6% of the freshman class) taken off the waiting list. Basically of the accepted students on admit day, only 75% chose Harvard. a full 25% chose other options.
I had a dream that I was accepted… waking up sucked lol
@APersonsHistory Cath from the Cath in College blog/youtube channel got rejected from harvard and currently goes to Stanford!
