The problem with Harvard is that, correct me if I am wrong but, T26E4 and Gibby have already pointed out that when you apply to Harvard, they already assumed that they are your number one school (hence if you look at the college board data, Princeton Review, and CDC, the “interest” in school is only “considered” or on the other hand, not that of an important factor in the decision making process). By all means, if you feel like it, send it to the committee by fax, but it might have been too late and could have no effect or what so ever on your application. My fear is that it even shows desperation. But alas, do it as you will. Best of luck to you!!!
Thank you everyone!
I’ll send it and hope for the best!
Ivy Day is coming.
What universities have you guys gotten into so far?
JHU, Amherst, and Cornell
Undecided between them though.
I wonder how much “better” their acceptance rate will be than Stanford
Probably pretty low, but close to Stanford. Since the acceptance rate for Stanford this year is around 4.86%, I’d assume Harvard will be around 5% or 4.9%
@hola1997 Stanford and Harvard are probably making it a game to see which college can be more selective, the true losers of this “game” is Us!!
What are the chances for Harvard for EA deferred?
@RoadtotheIvies98 : That’s the point, to maintain their reputation as being selective and special. That’s why they view Yale, Stanford, or MIT as their “peer” schools. @orionsagittarius : Chances for EA deferred are the same as RD applicants, ~5% for domestic students, ~3.25% for internationals.
3.25% …I better start crying now
@MohTamer personally, if you’re physics major, one of my friend said that jhu is great
Don’t these colleges have a limited class size?
It’s just that more and more people apply every year.
I guess I better start selling my kidneys on the black market so I can get into Harvard…amirite?
@schroscat Selling kidneys would work if you get accepted without financial aid :)) That would perhaps be worse than being rejected for me.
On second thoughts, an acceptance from this super reach, dream school would perhaps still be good, even if I may not be able to attend it without significant aid… Heck started dreaming again. First need to get accepted! (with chances close to around 0.0001% I am really not sure about that. :(( )

HYPSM view each other as peer schools because they lose the most students to schools that apply to one of the others in this small group. Sure, Harvard has the highest yield rate – but still, some 20% will turn down the Harvard offer – and most often to accept a seat at YPMS. And vice versa – kids who turn down Yale mostly will attend HPS or M, etc.
Chances for EA deferred are the same as RD applicants – but it’s not ~5% or ~3.25%. It’s actually lower since 40% of the slots are already taken in the EA round. More like ~3.5% and ~2%.
Harvard truly must be a dream school for some of you.
Because with an acceptance rate like that, the only way most of us shall enter it are in the realms of sleep.
Does harvard consider applications as holistic as Stanford ?
@Monster1997 They do say that it does. But this year the admissions have been crazy, so even several holistically well-rounded applicants can end up getting rejected…That being said, do not lose hope!
(It’s the only thing that is keeping me going right now anyway xD )
is it really true that deferred EA applicants have a similar chance as those in the RD round? ive always wondered whether they do reconsider deferred students (i hope they do…)
@leobabytiger applying Ea doesn’t impress them because it’s not binding… Not to mention they defer most EA applicants instead of rejecting most
