Other Factors: Also accepted to Yale, Columbia, JHU, USC, Peabody, etc.

[] Other stats: USAMO Qualifier for three years, MOSP one year (real MOSP, not the big one), lots of regional and national math awards
[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Essays: Solid, but I went over the word limit by about 50% (my counselor assured me this was OK)
[] Teacher Recs: Good, though one was a 10th grade teacher
[] Counselor Rec: Very good
[] Hook (if any): Math stuff and "well-roundedness"
[/ul]Location/Person:[ul]

[] School Type: Public

[] Gender: Male
[] major strength/weakness: Strong math ability / not much application (i.e. research)
[li] why you think you were accepted/rejected/defered: Lack of research and such projects, perhaps. Also, they already accepted two legacies (EA) and some recruited athletes from my school, so maybe they didn't want to take too many.[/li][/ul]Other Factors: Varsity athlete all years, officer or president of a number of other ECs.

Harvard was about my fourth choice, and I got in everywhere else, so no big deal. Would have been neat to go undefeated in college admissions, however.

Caltech, MIT, and Stanford. To say Harvard was my "fourth choice" is a little unfair because honestly it was pretty much a four-way tie (I didn't expect to get into more that one or two of them), but I think I would have chosen any of those three over Harvard. Had I gotten in, of course, I might have changed my mind; who knows.

Well, having gotten into MIT EA, I'd say that also getting accepted into Harvard makes it a tad harder to send in the admissions reply form to MIT. Still, I'm set on MIT...I think.

Where are you going? Do you have a favorite?

oh thanks, candlize. i live relatively close to your school btw. I live in Corsicana, an hour south of DFW and go there for practically everything to do with entertainment. (This town is a hellhole.) Where specifically in DFW do you live? Most of my family lives in Lancaster. Some live in Mckinney.

Yes! The illustrious Utada Hikaru is correct. I'm in love with her, I think.

wow....u must b a JPA scholar!! haih,,i'm from Malaysia too, but not a jpa scholar. Although i did not apply to harvard, i was rejected by Caltech, mit, princeton, stanford, yale. No worries, i guess harvard hav a certain quota for Malaysians, tat's y u can't get.

I am familiar with Corsicana, hikki! I pass through it everytime coming to and from school for breaks and when I visit home on some weekends. I am currently enrolled at the Texas Academy of Math & Science and live on the UNT campus in Denton during the Fall & Spring semesters, but my permanent residence is on the west side of Houston (Katy area).

I'm an Utada fan as well. I feel in love with "Exodus" when it came out in the states and had it specially ordered because none of the CD shops in the denton area were carrying it. Though I do personally like Ayumi Hamasaki a bit more...

Ayu serious?! Ayumi compared to Utada is...like comparing cockroaches to stallions. No, I'm kidding. I prefer Utada slightly more than Ayu. Yeah, Exodus is super good. I got it at Wal-mart on the first day. I was almost late to school because of it.

A girl who just got into MIT participated in TAMS. I entertained the idea back in my sophomore year, but I felt too comfortable here and decided against it. I'm probably missing out...but hopefully college will make up for it.

The one thing TAMS has taught me is that I strongly dislike mathematics & science... going through two semesters of honours bio, chem, and calculus I and II at the college level can make anyone dislike math & science real fast... I thank TAMS for helping me to decide I want to major in Spanish lol...
the majority of the students here though want to go pre-med... MIT is a very popular place for seniors to apply, and many have had luck. I, however, have decided that Harvard is definitely my #1 choice (i'm liberal artsy at heart).
