Hmmm. That would have to be considered independently, no? Wouldn't it depend on if there were a surge of transfer apps last year, regardless of a surge in high schoolers applying?

Over the past couple of years, transfer stats have remained roughly the same. It's interesting how there is a drop; let's see what happens this December and how the numbers work out.

Hmmm, well what my instincts are telling me is that this drop of 500 applicants is a good thing for us EA'ers. Basically, the way I see it is that Harvard is looking for ways to increase yield without compromising the quality of the student body. So they'll take roughly the same number of people as always (~900-1000) but from much smaller applicant pool.

I wonder how many applied EA to Yale?

My guess is hundreds of CCers who read this board and were considering Harvard were scared away by Byerly

hahaha - Byerly may be intimidating, but he's a great source of info... at times too much info... I think everyone is overanalyzing each and every aspect of this process. At this point, you all have to realize that the college admissions process is fickle, and we can't sit here and predict the actions of Harvard's adcom. Stop stressing and try to relax everybody.

I applied SCEA to Harvard. Was this information on the Harvard Admissions website? Wow, 3,700 applicants! I agree with chitownstud: Byerly, you're an awesome and very credible source of info! Also, yeah the admissions process is fickle, so we might as well just wait till December to find out how it all plays itself out. Good luck to all SCEA applicants to Harvard on this thread!

-Jon :)

yay 25% percent acceptance rate lol. If you are latino or black its probably like 50% Woo byerly lol!

w00t w00t!!! I'm Latino! I really hope you guys have the right idea. I still say we ought to wait. There no use in getting our hopes up and then finding out that the acceptance rates were a lot lower than we thought.
Ok I have some questions.
1) How do you start a thread?? I'm new on CC :)
2) If I submitted my CSS Profile to the College Board on Nov. 1st and it reached Harvard Oct. 9th, am I in trouble? I know the deadline was Nov. 1st, but I never expected that delay! Or is the fact that I sent it on Nov. 1st sufficient?
3) Has anyone scheduled an on-campus interview yet? Is anyone planning on arranging one soon? I've read in some books that students that have both on and off-campus interviews have slightly better chances in the admissions process than those with one or no interviews at all. What do you guys think? With my minority status, grades (and rank of top 5% of my class), about 12 APs spanning from 10th grade to senior year, continued commitment to EC involvement, awesome recs, strong essays, and out-of-this-world alumnus interview - will an on-campus interview really help? Is it worth it? I'm sorry everyone, I didn't mean to sound conceited. It's just that throughout the process, everything seems to be going great! That's why I'm a little anxious about these mid-Dec. letters!
I didn't mean to turn this into a chances thread. You guys just really seem to know a lot about Harvard Admissions, so I thought I'd ask. Thanks and good luck to everyone!

-Jon :)

"Stop stressing and try to relax everybody."

Dude, who are you kidding? We're all gonna keep stressing until we find out our status on Dec. 15th

Maybe you will be thinking about your app every second, but since my app was sent a month ago, I've actually thought about it less and less each day. I think that the most stressful time for me was September / early October when I was trying to decide where to apply early and while I was finishing the app up. Now I realize that it's out of my hands and I might as well enjoy my senior year and stop spending every single moment trying to analyze my chances and compare myself to others. All that I'm trying to say is relax, have some fun during your senior year, and try not to worry about it too much... even though that can be difficult.

Yup! You're absolutely right eyezonharvard (well maybe on behalf of 99.99% of us on this thread).

So can anyone answer my questions? I really would like to know. Thanks!

-Jon :)

Without football (which ended Friday), the days are going by extremely slow :(.

Come on you guys. I really thought you'd all be knowledgeable and friendly. It may say that I'm a junior member, but that may either be due to time elapsed since I joined or to the number of posts I've made. I'm still new! I'm not sure how to start a thread. I'd also like some clarification on my questions! Please help me out! Thanks!

-Jon

Just a reminder: Don't assume anything. Although it may be positive right now, they may decide to accept less and "bank on" students during the regular round. You never know how the logistics of these will work out.

Yeah you're right xjayz. I'll keep hoping, but I won't keep my hopes too high. We'll all find out on Dec. 15th...ish. Any other answers to my questions anyone (please scroll up a little to find those)? So, does anyone want to explain how you create a thread? It's probabaly the easiest thing in the world but I haven't looked into it enough to know. Any kind advice? Thanks!

-Jon :) :D

"Byerly, you're an awesome and very credible source of info."

How on earth can you know that?

Byerly, Hanna and NSM have established trust as alumni of Harvard College. As a Harvard student myself, I can say that their information is credible. In addition, when I was on CC myself applying last year, they had much information that they shared with us to which none of us were privy.

Thanks for the info.

3,700 applicants ...holy moly that is way lower....go high acceptance rate!!!
