Is it okay if I talk about how I have studied Classical Guitar for years? I know that most would be tempted to include it in an “artistic” rather than an intellectual activity
You can write about classical guitar in the supplementary essay if you like. I think it is reasonable to put it in here but would call and ask if you can. Did you take theory classes or other lessons along the way? The main thing is to get it all in one place.
There is of course a music major at Harvard and credit is given for “applied” music like lessons and certain performances, so one could argue that this ID academic if not intellectual. I happen to know that studying classical guitar takes some doing
You can also do a music supplement with a recording, a music resume, music teacher recommendations, even concert programs. But only if your playing is very good. If you have studied it for years, I assume it is This kind of thing can really help your chances.
No, I have not included it in any other parts of my application. I am a foreign student coming from a small country that speaks its own language. Part of my development as a person was learning multiple (5) foreign languages (which is what I plan to talk about in my intellectual activities). I was wondering if I could include classical guitar as my 7th language… Could it be counted as an intellectual activity if viewed from that perspective? It certainly has meant a lot to me and I would like the admissions officers to know.
