Harvard SCEA Class of 2020 Applicant Thread

@Kyuutoryuu Some teachers haven’t sent in their recommendations…

Therefore, how could a decision be made…

And do you know when the CSS profile is due

CSS profile was due November 1st for SCEA applicants. I hope you turned yours in.

Also, that’s the teachers’ fault, really. For most people, Harvard should be able to make a complete decision, for most people have had their teachers submit their recs already.

ive always wondered, by “recruited athletes” does it mean that those students were considered before this whole admission process?

@leobabytiger Yep. They were sought out deliberately as individuals who excelled in athletics, but still fell within the academic standards of other “Harvard-level” students. They often receive notification of a likely admission well before non-recruits are privy to similar information.

Has anyone from Pakistan gotten an interview call? If so, which city?

@verizonwireless AFAIK your application would be considered as “incomplete” and you’d be evaluated in the RD round

@verizonwireless, ^^that is incorrect. Your application is not incomplete if you haven’t submitted FA info–this is part of what Harvard and others call “need-blind admissions.” In fact, Harvard is one of the few places where you can submit FA documents late and it won’t affect your financial aid award. If you don’t have your FAFSA and CSS in, you won’t get any financial aid information at the time you hear about admission, that’s all. If you are accepted, go ahead and complete the forms and make Harvard the recipient. Good luck and relax.

@eastgrad
@verizonwireless also said that his teachers have not sent their recs yet. AFAIK, you have to send them before November 15-20th to be considered for early.
Also, while Harvard does accept FA forms until march, not getting an estimate when/if you get accepted can be problematic.

@EastGrad I wasn’t talking about FA; I meant teacher recommendations.

how about we all just drop out instead!!!

@giraffeinatree thanks for the reply :slight_smile:
Still anxiously awaiting to hear about an interview.

How important is the interview in the admissions process?

^^my interviewer said he filed a report, but every year he interviews about 10 applicants, and it is rare for even one to get accepted

Isn’t that sad lol

@nsliyromanov
Are you Russian?

@nsliyromanov how many people applied from your school?

@nsliyromanov I mean, considering the acceptance rate is only 5%, it’s not exactly surprising. I highly doubt my interviewer has seen many people he interviewed get in—and while I would love to be the one to change that, it’s not surprising in any way. But yeah I guess it’s a little sad because those people he interviews are other students just like us

@leonardo2020 have you heard of anyone who received contact from the FA office? And how is that possible if the decisions COULDNT have been made yet… If you’re a student who has never taken an sat prior to nov 2015, how would they make your decision? So to rephrase, if you haven’t heard of anyone who received contact from the FA office; when do you think that they’ll start contacting people?

Not Russian, avid learner of Russian though! And @verizonwireless my graduating class is 88, and my school is really small. I’m the only one to apply this year.

Hello guys

I am from a region with very limited number of interviews and still haven’t gotten any email.
Is that a really bad sign?
