@gracie21 In my mind, the chance of actually getting admitted after deferral is so slim anyway, it’s worth taking the chance and updating them about things I wish could’ve gone in my SCEA application. Granted, it likely won’t push me into the “admitted” threshold but I feel like it’s worth a shot—if not just for the mental closure it gives me by making sure I feel I gave a full and accurate depiction of who I am to the adcoms.
11 days…so nervous! :-S
My mom read an article on another popular chinese website where someone’s mom posted a picture of the likely letter her son received from Harvard and the letter said something along the lines of “Expect to receive your official acceptance December 11…”
@redrabbit23 link?
trying to search for it not sure if I can still find it but I’ll post the link if I do
@redrabbit23 thank you!
is this legit?
I never thought a likely letter would be that straight-forward? It seems like a counterfeit acceptance letter.
@leonardo2020 I have no idea, never gotten a likely letter before haha. My mom saw this article and showed it to me so I thought I’d share it anyways. Maybe google some other examples of likely letters?
Also @leonardo2020 on a lot of threads where people post their stats and whether or not they got accepted into certain colleges, a lot of people put “accepted (likely letter)” which shows that maybe the likely letters are straightforward enough that they can basically assume they have been accepted
What in the hell? It’s dated in October? That’s before early applications are even due??
The comments are great though, 恭喜恭喜!on every one
And if this is legit, I guess we should anticipate letters on the 11th not the 10th
Aren’t likely letters only sent to athletes? Source: http://www.thecrimson.com/admissions/article/2013/11/4/letters-of-intent-and-likely-letters/
@taylorharvard
Likely Letters are for any applicant that is considered high profile. Usually athletes are sent likely letters (as the letters have taken the place of a promise of scholarship), but there are also academic likely letters. These are, of course, more rare.

“and about 100 letters to other students with outstanding non-athletic attributes.”
If they say the letter will come on the 11th, it means online will likely be on the 10th, right? Mailed notifications usually take a day to get somewhere.
that doesn’t make sense though…why would harvard admit students before everyone even submitted their apps? since the deadline was november 1st and the date on the letter is october 28th
@magic125 they are not officially admitted until everyone else is, but they are given a “likely” letter early on because of some tremendous accomplishment or circumstance. In essence, Harvard is basically saying “we will admit you, you should come here!” as an insentive.
ok now im freaking out because I (of course) have not received a likely letter
Wait, so we first find out via the application portal, and then adcom sends an acceptance letter?
