Harvard SCEA Class of 2020 Applicant Thread

Did you all apply EA elsewhere?

@pubkid Nope, all the colleges I’m interested in are private ones except for Berkeley… you?

In approximately 10 days and 23 hours our childhood dreams can either be fulfilled or crushed…
Yep. That’s pretty terrifying.

@schroscat lol was it your childhood dream?
I decided in October that i’d apply EA to H :stuck_out_tongue:

@leonardo2020 Yeah, haha. My entire family is from Turkey so they got me on the Harvard track from a young age since it’s world famous. After I visited campus, I fell in love and the rest is history.

But seriously, guys…we’re Schrödinger’s Applicants. We’re accepted and rejected (&deferred) all at the same time. It is only the portal that can determine our faith and make Nature make her choice.

@leonardo2020 Yeah I applied to Yale-NUS and Michigan early as well. Just applied to the Berkeley-Sciences Po Dual Degree as well!

I also applied to UK universities, which has been a blessing because I’ve had a few offers already. Takes the stress off!

@schroscat I know it’s too late to say this now, but try not to put all your eggs in one basket! With an acceptance rate as low as Harvard’s, you could be qualified in every way and still receive a rejection simply by size limitations. There are a bunch of other amazing universities, even if Harvard is the best

@pubkid Oh, yes I know! I’m just saying that Harvard is my dream/reach school ever since I was a youngin’. I have a plethora of other schools I love as well; each of them are great for different reasons, and I’d be more than happy to be a student there.

@schroscat Good  You mentioned you’re from Turkey — what part? One of my fellow research assistants at Harvard this summer is from Turkey as well

@pubkid I’m from small town Fatsa, Ordu. It’s right along the Black Sea.

@cheerleader16 yes, sadly lol. I actually know a few people that did it with me last year that did SSP again this year.

@RandomRhino Darn! It’s alright, I personally like Beyonce waaaay better anyways.

@tuty143 Wow, that’s actually a really interesting way to think about it, and you’re right! We are all so full of potential right now, but I’d still like to know where I’m going… Like RandomRhino said, I’m someone who daydreams about college a lot, so I would like to plan out my dorm room and everything.

@trainguy1 a good example of one that would show disregard for the university would be “I don’t need Harvard” or perhaps something along those lines. Stating that some other colleges are better than Harvard/putting down the selectiveness of the Ivys would–in my opinio–show disregard toward the school. Of course, these types of statements don’t need to be written outright; the overall tone of the essay could convey such a message.

@trainguy1 I think that’s meant as you can’t bash the school you’re applying to. Aka “Harvard is full of pretentious snobs and I hate them” I highly doubt you said anything like that in your personal statement unless you were really hoping for a rejection.

@Stephiey Beyoncé? More like BAEyoncé  And glad to meet another fellow daydreamer!

@schroscat Love love love this Schrödinger’s “applicants” analogy! It’s so true!

Are there really people who’d bash their SINGLE CHOICE EARLY ACTION school (or any school for that matter!) in their personal statement?! :open_mouth:

@RandomRhino I have a strange fixation on Schrödinger/Einstein and all their cat business. Thank you; I’m actually really proud of that analogy, haha. We’re all in admissions purgatory, and we’re just waiting for the box to be opened!

@pubkid nice!! I’ve applied EA to UF as well, and I’ve also applied to Middlebury and WashU RD. Have a lot more to get done by jan 1, haha.

lol @RandomRhino I too daydream about my future dorm room…I may or may not have a few Pinterest boards for dorm decor

@magic125 @RandomRhino Personally, I’m extremely conflicted on whether or not I should be bringing my book collection (…it could be considered a mini library) with me to college. I feel like I would be leaving a part of me at home if I didn’t. But then again…where would I store them?

Anyone have any ideas on how to construct a desk made out of books?

@RandomRhino I wouldn’t ever lol. But lately I’ve found myself bashing (privately in the comfort of my own home) the college board, which I guess colleges don’t take to kindly too. It just really bothers me that they can just take so much money from students by monopolizing an essential part of the application process! I guess I’ll just have to deal with it for now tho
