Harvard SCEA Class of 2020 Applicant Thread

@flautamagica I submitted Prélude Et Scherzo by Henrí Büsser and Ballade by A. Perílhou. I guess we have another thing in common: French composers!

@schroscat they are the best for flute! I think I remember playing Prelude Et Scherzo, love that piece! How long have you been playing flute?

Who else doesn’t think they’ll get in?

@flautamagica I just can only imagine a rejection because im the most negative, least confident person I know. Its incredible.

@flautamagica I’ve been playing for almost ten years? I’ve lost count, haha. Concertino is wonderful to play; I remember going through it on a “I’m going to procrastinate my homework for my lessons by playing everything I probably shouldn’t be.” French music is the best for technique, forget Mozart! (Gasp…as much as I love Concerto in D, it’s nothing compared to Ballade. Maybe I’m biased, but regardless.)

@expertiger @tuty143 I am just telling myself over and over again that I am not getting in and making my parents do the same thing. I don’t want to psych myself out because I know that this application process is like the lottery and applicants better than me have been rejected/deferred so I’m trying to keep that in mind so I’m not super disappointed!

@expertiger meeee lol i can just imagine myself waiting for 2:00, anxiously clicking on the link, and seeing that “i’m sorry to inform you, but you have been deferred/rejected” message

@schroscat I’ve played Concerto in D as well! My flute teacher is french so that’s probably why I’ve mostly been exposed to French composers. I really like pieces from the Romantic era because they tend to be sort of show off songs haha. 10 years is a longggg time! I’ve only been playing for about six years but I think I’ve improved quickly for the past couple of years (especially since I got a new flute)

@magic125 why 2:00? Isn’t the decision released at 5:00?

@expertiger …me…its just weird because people at my school who know I’m applying keep saying I’ll get in but they don’t get it. They don’t understand just how difficult it is. So it’s just even worse because I feel like people will judge me when I dont get in.

Does anybody else want to put a moratorium on chance me threads and posts? (ESPECIALLY posts in this thread!) I feel like it adds to that general CC cutthroat atmosphere and I really like what we’ve got going here where people are much more constructive & aren’t looking for a chance to brag under the guise of being “worried about getting in” (as if CC posters can accurately chance anyone)

@AngelaW98 Your date of birth is usually included in your official college transcripts. So, your DOB, along with your full name, is enough info. However, just to be safe, I ordered the transcripts to be sent to my house and then mailed it to Harvard along with my Common App ID and Harvard Reference number. Make sure you don’t open the official transcripts after you receive them. They are considered void if you do so. I made that mistake, lol

@flautamagica Which one do you play? I had a crappy student model flute until this year; we finally saved up enough money to upgrade to my new best friend: Benjammin’! Get it…get it?

@RandomRhino yes please. I love the conversations here. Let’s keep it that way

@RandomRhino Agreed! We all have a chance here considering how Harvard doesn’t have a set criteria for admission; let’s not get stressed over anyone else’s scores!

Are they going to send and email with acceptance results or is it just going to be on the portal?

Ravenclaw for the winnnnn. And no more of these chance posts lol I hope everyone had a good day!

@redrabbit We all have to log in to the portal to see the decisions, but an email will be sent out to notify us when they are live.

I see @schroscat, thanks!

I don’t think I’ll be able to look when the decisions come out, hopefully my dad will be there and be his chill self and tell me haha
