@pubkid What’s considered a rocky junior year?
^^good question (if you don’t mind @pubkid)
okay that’s comforting:) thanks for the info @pubkid !
Got a B in both semesters of precalc >:( My weighted GPA is solid because this is my third year of taking all weighted courses, but my unweighted is around a 3.9, mainly because of last year. I know it isn’t too bad, but my school has multiple 2400/4.0 applicants.
For further context I’m very extracurricular-heavy, so I understand if they want to make sure I can handle rigorous academics. I double-interned at Harvard this summer and have a lengthy resume, but obviously that’s only one component of the application.
I finished AP Physics with an 88, but with the weighting it’s around a 98. Is that a problem? Oh my god, I’m freaking out now.
I would agree with everything you guys have said here. My first hunch is that they noted the 5 difficult APs I’m taking this year, and wanted to confirm that I can handle a difficult course load.
Moreover, I could see them being requested by an admissions counselor who may be presenting the case to committee and wants to make a stronger case for acceptance or deferral.
Personally, I’m just glad that I’m still being considered. Unfortunatley, it’s distracting me from completing my Wake Forest App and Cal Berkeley app…
^^ I’m freaking out a little too:( So far I’ve had all A’s senior year with the exception of BC Calc. Do you think it’s a big deal to have a B in BC Calc? It’s my school’s hardest class and I am definitely not planning on doing anything math or science related in college
@schroscat Don’t stress about a single grade! I go to one of the most competitive public schools in the country, so there is a lot more pressure for perfection. I’m the only applicant to Harvard (early at least) that didn’t have a private SAT tutor and college counselor. Wealthy suburbs have different requirements than the real world, where people have more to focus on than just school!
@CDOESenior2k16 No. It’ll show you’re human. I’m currently taking BC calc (Still on AB material though) and am preparing to take the comprehensive integral chapter exam. I’m begging my counselor to submit the report before the grade goes in for the test. Not sure if it’ll be pretty…
Also, the admissions guy said he needed it by Thursday, so maybe that’s when I’ll be presented in committee. If I am… maybe I won’t be.
Thanks @aharper98
@pubkid The thing is, by not-so-good first quarter, I mean I got B-'s in both AP AB Calc and AP Chem. I don’t want them thinking I’ve been slacking off; I’ve just been such an anxious nutjob the past two months that, as a result, my grades slipped. All my other grades are over a 90, just those two grades. (I’m taking 9 classes this year) My school’s AP curriculum is extremely rigorous, and very test heavy. I’m horrible at taking tests primarily because over the past few years, I’ve develop severe test anxiety because of college. Oh, my god, I’m not getting in!
when are results officially released?
@ballsohard2020 December 10th at 5:00 PM EST.
I am hearing back from Yale-NUS on the 10th too. Could be a very good or very bad day hahaah
Would love to be done with this process, but of course it won’t be the end of the world if I am deferred.
@schroscat woah that seems really early? is that for domestic and international applicants?
@ballsohard2020 All SCEA applicants, I believe.
@pubkid this may be a stupid question but what does the -NUS mean??
@ballsohard2020 Yes for domestic and international applicants! I don’t think that Harvard has specifically said so, but the 10th seems to be the general consensus on this thread
I got an 88 in ap bio and 89 in ap lit first quarter of senior year lol I feel horrible after working so hard for stellar junior year grades. I dont think my counselor got a request, which means they won’t see those >_<
