I'm a junior atm. My dream is MIT. Engineering is my passion. However, my parents want me to apply to Harvard. Right now, I'm still deciding. Help?

You’re still a junior, you have a few months to decide.

I would say follow your passions. Explain to your parents your ambitions. Harvard and MIT are both equally prestigious schools, so I do not understand why they wouldn’t want to go to MIT.

I say apply to MIT, for several reasons.

1) Biggest reason: It’s your dream school.
2) You can apply EA to other schools, too. Harvard is SCEA. SINGLE CHOICE Early Action. If you apply to MIT early, you can also apply to Caltech early. And other strong engineering schools.
3) MIT Engineering > Harvard Engineering (although Harvard has been beefing up its engineering department lately)

But anyway, you have half of a year so don’t worry about it for now.

If you apply early to MIT, which is non-restrictive early/non-binding, you should also apply to a broad range of other non-restrive early/non-binding schools, such as Georgetown, UChicago, UMich, and your flagship State School. In this way, you will have at least one early application in your back pocket come mid-Decemeber. You can see which colleges have non-restrive early/non-binding options by reviewing: https://www.commonapp.org/CommonApp/MemberRequirements.aspx
