I'm working on my app for Harvard SOE for my M.Ed, and although I've decided on a major I like (Mind, Brain, Education), it suddenly occurs to me that, are there radically different rates of admission depending on the selected specialization at Harvard SOE?

Although I am a professional educator and studying in the precise specialization to further my career is more important than just getting in....well, I'd honestly like to maximize my odds of acceptance!

There aren’t significant differences in acceptances per department at the MA level, but there are different rates of acceptance between PhD/EdD and MA programs. You shouldn’t be applying to a program you are not interested in nor qualified for, though, and I wouldn’t be concerned with acceptance rates: If you are qualified, then you will be accepted.

thanks! That’s what I needed to hear. Of various Ed.M programs, Harvard is my first choice, based solely on their Mind/Brain/Education program. Just got a little panicky when researching it further - I have a premed background, but no specialization in neurology! I guess they’ll teach me - if I already knew, I’d be teaching not studying!

And I did look at the acceptance rates for masters vs PhD - hugely different!

I wholeheartedly agree with ThePhilosopher! Also, The Harvard Graduate School of Education is exceptionally open to conversing with prospective students. If you any questions about the curriculum shoot them an email. I wish you the best of luck!

I will be applying for admissions into their Technology, Education and Innovation program next fall.

Out of curiosity, where did you get those acceptance rates? (what is your source?)

I know it seems outrageous but it’s true…

Number of applications received for master’s programs 1,255
Master’s programs acceptance rate 59.1%

Number of applications received for Ph.D./Ed.D. programs 503
Doctoral programs acceptance rate 12.3%

How competitive was it to get in? How is the program?

Thank you in advance.
