If you apply to Harvard and express strong interest in its new School of Engineering, do you think that might help your admission chances somewhat?

Of course, Harvard's not known for engineering and I'd think right off the bat that they'd have a strong interest in establishing a strong student profile in that school.

I am actually in the same situation as you. I want to go into EECS, or possibly chemical engineering. I think at Harvard, or any unniversity where your admissions chances go up because you are applying to a college within the unniversity in which that college needs more students, you would've needed to show an interest in that area by doing various ECs involving your specified area of interest. (Another example of this would be Berkley's college of chemistry, where they state on their website that if you haven't shown an interest in chemistry previously, your chances don't go up at all. Additionally, at Berkeley, you're locked in for a year taking courses you would for a chem major, so it's almost like you wasted a year if you switch your intended major).

So, maybe if you could tell us what you have done in the means of ECs involving engineering, we could help you. Although, I'd love to hear more opinions on this.
