Harvard SSP Chances?

I'm kind of worried...I've heard the acceptance rate for Harvard SSP is 20%.
I attend a large public school on Long Island, New York, fairly competitive. I will be a first generation college student and I'm the daughter of an immigrant, if that even means anything.
I'm a sophomore, so I don't know my class rank but I would put myself in the top 25 out of my class of 1000.
My GPA is a 4.0 (with weights)
My Courses:
Academy of Finance - 100
Math 10Advanced - 90
Chem Honors - 91
Japanese 1 - 97
Italian 3 - 100
AP World - 94
Women's Ensemble - 97
English Honors - 98
Dance - 100
I'm also taking a 10th class with Johns Hopkins CTY - AP Psychology. I don't know what my grade is in the class, we don't have "quarters" or "semesters".

ECs:
Member of Powdered Wigs(Theatre Club) - Tech Crew member and Premier Advertising Salesperson(Sold $1000 in ads last year and $300 this year...I blame the economy)
National Honor Society
Honor Roll
NPT. Theatre Troupe - Director/Producer
DECA member
Member of Academy of Finance
Member of ALS Club - Organized fundraising event
Writer for School Newspaper

Awards:
JHU CTY
2nd place in Travel and Tourism Category of YPCC Competition (DECA)

I'm applying with an essay I wrote for English Honors. It's a critical lens on the book "Catcher in the Rye". I got a 100, but the topic seems a little juvenile. I have another essay I wrote for AP World answering the question, "Were the Crusades caused by religious factors or secular ones?" I also got a 100 on this essay. My teacher says it was well balanced and well written, but I think I did better work on the Catcher piece. Which should I use?

Would it be possible for me to apply to Harvard SSP AND CTY Summer Course? If I don't get accepted to Harvard I want to have a back-up. Can I submit my Harvard app and when I find out my acceptance status in a month back out of CTY? Or is this not possible?

PLEASE HELP! THANK YOU!

I think you should be more than fine. I attended SSP as a rising junior a few years ago and to be honest I was worried about getting in too. My stats were a little better than yours but I would be very surprised if you do not get in.

While I was there, I met a lot of really nice people who had stats that were mainly above average (smart people for sure but most people were not at the very top of their classes). I personally don’t think that you need to apply for the CTY. However, did you apply already and just waiting for the decision now? I think I remember receiving my acceptance in late January (applied in December).

Thanks, bosredsox! I don’t think I’ll apply to CTY, then. Harvard was my 1st choice.

I haven’t applied yet; the application was only open starting in mid-January. To apply for financial aid you have to apply by March 25th, so I still have some time. I’m almost done with the application, I just have to get my recommendations!

for a ‘backup’, consider Cornell’s summer college. Neither will really help you for college admissions, however. (Better off doing something useful over the summer.) And note, these programs are big money-makers for the schools, so finaid is extremely limited.
