So, my parents make less than $20 K a year. I'm willing to spend $50 from my savings for the non-refundable application fee, but I want to know beforehand how likely it would be if I were to be accepted, they covered all the costs for tuition and board. Thanks in advance.

the FA for harvard is very good -- with your income level, you will most likely be awarded almost full aid. many programs will require that you put up $100-$300 of your own money to insure that you will be coming. Remember that you will also need transportation (both airplane ticket and transportation to the school -- some charge for the airport shuttle) and spending money. Many programs recommend $100-$200 a week, but you can get by on much, much less. Those estimates are usually for the wealthier kids who are used to spending alot.

Brown is also good with FA -- and I believe that their application fee is only $25 if you file soon. It might be worth applying to both to see whose FA is the better deal for you.

thanks! but what if i live in NY and wanted to get my dad to drive me up there instead?

Even better.
