Harvard SSP

Hi! I am an American citizen living in India and I desperately want to go to Harvard this summer. Does anyone know what the average PSAT score for acceptance is? And what about the chances of getting financial aid?
Thanks!

I’m pretty sure the pre-college program at Harvard isn’t that selective. Unless you’re extremely unqualified, you should be able to get accepted.

Not sure about financial aid, but I heard it’s not that great (considering it’s selectiveness…or rather, unselectiveness).

By the way, I’ve never gone to any secondary school programs/pre-college summer programs before. I did extensive research, though, because I was interested in them at one point, and I also have a friend who attended one at Stanford (not exactly Harvard, but all the programs operate similarly), so that’s where my knowledge stems from. You’d probably get a much different response from someone who actually attended the program at Harvard.

Ok thanks! I’m also looking at Stanford but Harvard is my first preference, so I just wanted to know if I had a chance.

I don’t know what the average PSAT score is, but it’s not necessary I only took an IELTS and got accepted  It really was the best summer of my life haha
There is only financial aid for domestic students.
From SSP:
Domestic students who have been admitted to the Secondary School Program may apply online for financial aid. See Financial Aid for details
http://www.summer.harvard.edu/programs/secondary-school/cost

The program is not very competitive. Decent scores (SAT or PSAT) and grades should be fine. As a US Citizen you may qualify for financial aid. Email/Call the HSSP administrators to find out. You could also try other good summer programs at Cornell and Brown Universities (go to their websites and search for keyword “summer programs.”

Ok, thanks! And do I have to send anything other than my essay, transcripts and teacher/counselor forms? Should I send any certificates of things like olympiads or scholarship exams?

I actually didn’t even send my PSAT scores in (although I had a 210, but at the time when I applied last year, I had a 177) because it wasn’t required. I think the admission is quite lax, to be honest, and I heard from my dean that it was somewhere around 35%.
I’m sure you would be able to get in if you try, just make sure everything’s ready and sent.

However, the classes you choose would make a difference on whether ‘harvard ssp’s hard or not’. I chose an eight credit course, and I ended up with an A-. I worked my butt off for the whole summer, and it was the best (and the most knowledgable) summer I have ever had.

I also had a 4K scholarship going there. It would have been hard for me to afford it otherwise. (You can ask me anything else if you want to, but I don’t feel comfortable posting my exact stats in the public so.)

Can I ask of how you applied for the scholarship? Was it merit-based or need-based or was it something else?

@Hawkace

You are automatically considered for scholarships once you apply to Harvard SSP early. (last year’s deadline was March 15th, I think)
It is both merit-based and need-based. You have to fill out this financial form and everything, and generally juniors (rising seniors) get more money. I came from a middle class family and I was a Sophomore when I applied, so I think their scholarship is pretty generous.

Hi,
I’m a first year degree student, lse international program in india.

I desperately want to attend harvard’s summer school this year 2014. I know very little of how to apply.
what are the deadlines?
do you have to give SAT or TOEFL to apply?
what grades do you need?
when are the online applications opening?
and is there a way i can get financial aid?

I do not want to miss out on this opportunity. Can anybody help?

How much did the scholarship cover? Is it possible to receive a full or near-full scholarship? Also does how early you submit your application have anything to do with your chances?
