<p>Hey, I really want to know whether I can get into these schools. I am also looking for some suggestions on schools known to be strong in International Relations or Political Science or Business or all. I'm a rising senior.</p>

GPA. 3.97 (our GPA scale is messed up. 94 is an A-. So my GPA is basically me getting 94-96s unweighted + weighted)

SAT 2s Math - 750 USH - 730 PHysics - (november, probabl 750)
IB Diploma : IBH History, IBH Physics, IBH English, IBS Spanish, IBS Business and Management, IBS Math</p>

Model UN 9- 12 (Delegate/Chair)
Speech and Debate 9- 12 (1st place at an international tournament between schools) / Taught middle schoolers for 10,11

Bangladesh 4 weeks helping at a hospital/tutored english.math. etc

Philippines - 1 week (helped out a mission center for college students)</p>
<p>Your stats look pretty good. Maybe you could improve your SAT’s some and make sure you take very difficult courses next year. Also, try to improve your EC’s. Your service section is very impressive. Other good schools for IR/political science are Princeton, Columbia, Johns Hopkins and Brown. Don’t give up on any of the more competitive schools because you definitely have a chance.</p>
<p>Your GPA is great based on the grade deflation. Your scores are decent but improvement couldn’t hurt. I would aim for 800 in math since that’s pretty much standard for those schools. EC’s are decent (especially speech and debate), but the service is a little lacking. If you add all your service together thats’ only 9 weeks, which doesn’t show an intense devotion to giving back to the community. </p>
<p>You definitely have a shot at georgetown, UCLA, UCB, Tufts, UCSD, Amherst and stanford and harvard would be a reach (as they are for everyone.)</p>

<p>Oh no. Another “what are my chances” question from a super smart student. Have some faith in yourself. With a list of schools that long, my guess would be you could get into a few of the ones you listed.</p>
<p>University of Edinborough. Great for International Relations. If you go for 4 years, you basically have a Masters Degree. You have to declare your major right up front, changing isn’t easy. and you have to be pretty self-motivated. They don’t hold your hand. But it is one of the top schools in the world, and it is less $ than private US schools (not as thrifty as in-state publics).</p>
<p>and wow thats amazing. im in high school doing the Diploma so trust me I know how hard it is to do that all. To be honest…schools like Stanford and Harvard care A LOT more about GPA and SAT/ACT scores than they do about ECs. scoring in the 700s on the SATs is killer and if you have amazing grades you can deffinitely do it.</p>
<p>one thing to be careful of though! Don’t try and look amazing. For some reason, when college admissions directors come accross an app that looks almost too good to be true, they dont like it. You could truly be an amazing student/person, but they interpret having a long list of ECs as someone who just signs up for everything and isn’t actually committed. Try to have a short but meaningful list of ECs. That plus awesome grades will get you into a great school!</p>
<p>are you kidding me? Stanford Harvard UPenn and Amherst dont expect every student to get an 800 on reading writing and math. are you insane? that’s a perfect score? scoring in the 700s in great. plenty of student scoring in the 600s and 500s even get accepted</p>
<p>OP, you have a chance at all the schools in your list, including Harvard and Stanford. Your stats are in the middle of HYPSM. The better question here is: “Which school would you fit in best?”</p>
<p>I think your best bet would be to focus on your volunteering/community service activities in the different countries and de-emphasize music and other really common stuff. You want to try to stand out rather than show that you’ve done a bit of everything.</p>
<p>I don’t think you should de-emphasize music at all. Just because it may be more common doesn’t mean that you haven’t worked really hard on it for all four years at high school. I thought music was a very strong EC because it shows your persistence in something.</p>
