sempi..ur gonna start that whole columbia thing again....grrrr...

it's funny- i loved my columbia info session because the guy that gave it was a nerdy jewish new yorker, and i thought he was cool because he was kind of saying... what, jealous? i am who i am.

anyway i thought it was funny.

Hey Islander, I applied Wellesley and Harvard and got the Wellesley likely eval too...I'm struggling a bit with which would be a better place for me...that is if i even get into harvard. Keep me posted on how things turn out for you...there's a good chance I'll be seeing you next fall...

What is wrong with WashU? How do you get into Cambridge but not into WashU?

british schools look for very different things than US schools. british schools honestly don't care about your EC's and as long as you have more than an 1200, they don't care about your SATs either.

ReDbUll298,

you're willing to go to penn over yale and dartmouth over princeton and harvard?

whao

University of Chicago

There's no real hierarchy in the rest:
Amherst (early write)
Princeton
Georgetown-SFS
American (presidential scholarship)
Middlebury
Trinity U (Murchison Scholar)
UTA - only because of 10% rule

hmm I applied MIT (accepted EA)
waiting on Harvard
safeties Case Western and Miami OH, even though I won't be going to either.

After I received my MIT acceptance, I withdrew from Columbia, Duke, UChicago, and Rochester.

sorry, yale then penn

i don't tend to get caught up in prestige. i'd rather go to one of the LACs anyway (swat haverford amherst vassar)

Dartmouth (accepted: likely letter)
Williams (accepted: early write)
Wesleyan (accepted)
Michigan (accepted: Honors, Residential College, Scholar Award)
Brandeis (accepted: MLK Scholarship, full ride)

Still waiting on:
Harvard (deferred EA)
Yale
Brown
Columbia
Amherst
Vassar

what's your top choice, rjsmith?

suburbian: Rumour has it WashU waitlisted a lot of overqualified people this year to try and raise their yield. Not sure whether this is true or not and don't really care, I wasn't intending to go there anyway. (I suppose that means waitlisting me was a good idea.)

UK universities don't care at all about extracurriculars, and put less emphasis on essays than most US schools. The main emphasis at most British univerities is on exam results (I did well on my IGCSE exams and am projected to do well on IB). Cambridge and Oxford also put a lot of emphasis on the interview, where in addition to the general interview questions used by US schools, you also have to answer difficult questions in the subject in which you are applying (in my case, maths). I should also note that all the UK acceptances I listed are conditional on certain results on my IB exams, and I have listed them as acceptances because the required results are well below what I expect to get on my exams.

I know a girl who is in at Harvard (EA), Yale (likely), Duke (likely + scholarship finalist), and MIT (RD) and was waitlisted by WashU. Textbook example of "Tuft's Syndrome."

NYU:Tisch Film-Early write!! (2% are accepted! I have no idea how I got in)
USC-RD
Umich Honors

Remaining (in order):
Harvard (VES)
Wesleyan
Northwestern (school of communication-film production)
Yale (gross...not sure why I applied here, their film program is horrible)

Harvard (Deferred)
Yale
Stanford
Penn
Columbia
Brown
Duke
Washington (accepted - no money =/)
Tufts
BU (accepted - full merit scholarship )

in that order

MIT accpeted
Harvard likely letter
Caltech rejected

waiting:
Yale
Princeton
Stanford
U. Chicago
JhU

ognjen,
