In a few years, I hope to apply to the Harvard Secondary Program for 11th-12th graders. I'm very much aware that it is competitive and such and I'm still attending middle school, but I'd like to know what makes an excellent candidate for that program and what I can do to meliorate my chances to being admitted. Thanks.

The program isn't competitive. Anyone who is a decent student will get accepted.

Yeah, isn't the acceptance rate around 80%?

This program is extremely expensive and H. makes money off of it. It is not particularly competitive as long as you have the $$ to pay. Students go to it thinking it will increase their chances of getting in when they apply to college but this is not so; however, a lot of students love the program anyway. So, if you go, just go with your eyes open. There are a lot of wonderful courses to take but you will not necessarily be studying side by side with Harvard students. Very few Harvard students enroll in the summer except for Organic Chemistry, which some prefer to concentrate on in the summer when they are taking only one course.

I was wondering if a course taken during the summer can count toward one of the 4 credits needed for advanced standing?

So it isn't difficult to get in? Do they not offer financial aid?

Constance-- Good grief, get off this message board! You're too young to be agonizing over this!!! Go eat a pop-tart and watch some cartoons. It will all work out. :-)

That is the problem I have. They do offer financial aid, but only for tuition. You still end up paying around $3,000 for room and board. :(
