do we like have to stick to those topics for the optional essay??? i mean honestly i dont like those topics -- so can i write on a topic of my choice? is that allowed?

for those who got in, what did u ppl do? how many even attempted the optional essay??

Could you guys please help..... there are like three to four days left for the deadline!!

He's only procrastinating on the optional stuff. It's better than me putting off my required essays! That's why I'm suddenly on this board so often. That and the fact that I'm up until four every night procrastinating. :)

Didn't touch the optional essay. I figured I had nothing amazingly interesting that I didn't put down on my application already, and anything else would be forced and waste the time of the Admissions Committe. Plus, I felt my CommonApp essay was really good.

firstly im a she....corranged but i agree with crimson,..............damn i had been procrastinating like hell...i still have couple a main essays left!:P

I really believe that the optional essay should ONLY be for someone who feels that without it, an important part of him/herself is being left out of the application. That is the intent of Harvard's offer to do it. If it appears that you are just sending an extra essay because you think that having two long essays is better than one, I think it will hurt your cause. I also think that if you have one really strong essay, and the supplemental one is not of that caliber, it can hurt you as well. So, the OP's question, to me, indicates that s/he doesn't have something vital that needs to be said, and that's a sign to let it go.
